Harris is awful. Really chavvy.

Rosco (no E) is ok, but really belongs on a dog.

Franklin is just too surnamey.

stickybear · 19/03/2025 18:26

I quite like Harris and Franklin. How about Harrison? I know a couple of Harrisons. Or Grayson?

Moreteaandchocolate · 19/03/2025 18:41

They’re all good names. Naming trends evolve over time and these all fit perfectly with this generation of boys - they’re not massively “out there” and they sound cool and well-known but not overused. All three have good, familiar sounding nn’s he can use if he likes (Ross / Harry / Frank).
(As for the surnames as first names objection - I know people with the surnames James, Thomas, Mark, John, etc…)

Baninarama · 19/03/2025 18:45

Not keen on Harris - 'Arris is cockney rhyming slang for arse! Maybe I'm just of a certain age and grew up in a certain area though...

AtomHeartMotherOfGod · 19/03/2025 18:46

I think they are all terrible I'm afraid.

If your DH hates them then you'll have to find a compromise anyway, so it doesn't really matter what we think.

RandomUsernameHere · 19/03/2025 18:48

Franklin is lovely and so are the shortened versions Frank or Frankie.

Hollietree · 19/03/2025 18:49

Harris makes me think of Rolph Harris. Don’t do it.

Joystir59 · 19/03/2025 18:52

I don't like any of them.

RamblingEclectic · 19/03/2025 18:54

I quite like Franklin, and I think Harris and Roscoe and okay.

I'm not sure how we'd define a normal name, but Franklin at least has been used as a not that unusual given names for centuries, I've seen plenty of records with the name. I think Harris has as well. Not so sure on Roscoe.

Other names that are also surnames: Garrett, Fenner, Lachlan, Hallam, Emmerich, Curtis.

ItalianChineseIndianMexican · 19/03/2025 18:58

I like Harris.
Roscoe is ok.
Not keen on Franklin.

Saharafordessert · 19/03/2025 19:09

Harry, Frank/Frankie or Ross would all be better alternatives!

Unforgettablefire · 19/03/2025 19:10

I don’t like any of them sorry. And Harris just made me think of someone I don’t care to be reminded of. Sorry.

WatchingTheClowns · 19/03/2025 19:12

All 3 are horrible

Purplecatshopaholic · 19/03/2025 19:14

Harris is popular here in Scotland. The other two are really awful - sorry.

Tooearlytothink · 19/03/2025 19:14

I love Harris but we're in Scotland & it's overused here.

VenusClapTrap · 19/03/2025 19:15

I do think Roscoe is awful, sorry. Like pp it just makes me think of the Dukes of Hazard dog.

Franklin isn’t my cup of tea, but I’ve heard worse.

I quite like Harris, but that’s because I know a couple of lovely ones.

Mingenious · 19/03/2025 19:17

They aren’t great.

Harris - surname
Franklin - surname
Roscoe - is it even a name?

Thewalrusandthecarpenter · 19/03/2025 19:17

Roscoe just reminds me of Sheriff Rosco P Coltrane. I suppose that’s dated but it doesn’t sound like a real name. Franklin is slightly better.

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 19/03/2025 19:17

Franklin is ok

TheCurious0range · 19/03/2025 19:17

I knew a terrier with one eye called Roscoe

Louielooiloveyou · 19/03/2025 19:17

I’m with your husband

ValentinesGranny · 19/03/2025 19:21

Marylou2 · 19/03/2025 17:47

Me too!!! What was the fat Bassett Hound called? Perhaps OP could go with that. Think it was a girl though.

Flash

FlowerFlowerFlower · 19/03/2025 19:22

Yeah pretty much

User0311 · 19/03/2025 19:24

I like Franklin could have plenty of nicknames from that, not keen on Harris or roscoe

Mollysocks · 19/03/2025 19:31

Sorry OP our labrador is called Rosco (without the ‘e’) I think it’s an often used name for dogs.
