Ottilie, Isadora, Olympia or Allegra?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Yellowsubmarineunderthesea · 18/03/2025 22:45

Are you ok with Isadora being Dora? But don't like any of them really, sorry.

thinktwice36 · 18/03/2025 22:46

nope

Lungwort · 18/03/2025 22:46

Ottillie always sounds wobbly to me, and I think Olympia sounds too stately, more like a theatre or an ocean liner than a girl. Allegra or Isadora.

YourAmberFawn · 18/03/2025 22:46

Isadora

Lungwort · 18/03/2025 22:47

Oh, you should have said this was a horse, not a baby.

AgathaX · 18/03/2025 22:48

Do you live in these circles, it do you just hope to? All are beautiful names.

Manchesterbythesea · 18/03/2025 22:48

I love Allegra💕

Catofthesouth · 18/03/2025 22:48

Fang is a lovely name for a baby girl. Or a boy.

Enough4me · 18/03/2025 22:50

They're a bit like Hyacinth or Eugenie, not unattractive in sound, but can be hard names to live up to.

Fang is a lovely name for a baby girl. Or a boy.

But would you happily get up on a horse called Fang?

Moreteaandchocolate · 18/03/2025 22:53

I like Ottilie, Isadora and Allegra, although they’re all a bit “frillier” than my usual style in names. As they’re quite long then consider if you like Ottie /Tilly, Issy / Dora or Ally best as nn’s, as they’re likely to get shortened. I think I’d pick Ottilie as I like the nn Tilly (I like Issy too but it would get lost in all the millions of Isabels).

SnowFrogJelly · 18/03/2025 22:53

Pick a normal name….

TurquoiseDress · 18/03/2025 22:56

I do love Allegra 💜

Normandy144 · 18/03/2025 22:57

I like Olympia. We used it as a middle name for DD as it's family name. I believe Serena Williams eldest daughter is Olympia. Allegra is also nice.

IMissSparkling · 18/03/2025 22:59

They're all terrible. Unless you're naming a Siamese kitten in which case, crack on.

Nevertrustacop · 18/03/2025 23:02

God, I have no idea. Possibly Isadora in the hope the poor kid calls herself Dora?

Twinstudy · 18/03/2025 23:03

I like otillie although I think you'd have to accept she'll likely become Tilly (which I also like). Allegra's quite nice too, not keen on Olympia.

Lungwort · 18/03/2025 22:51

No, that’s a name for a baby! Not a horse!

Catofthesouth · 18/03/2025 23:10

Seriously, those are super posh names. I know some kids with those names, they’re all trust fund families. Are you posh enough? If so fill your boots.

boots is quite a good name actually.

MeganM3 · 18/03/2025 23:10

Isadora is cute. Could be issie

loropianalover · 18/03/2025 23:10

I know an Olympia but she gets called Imp/Impy which I think is horrible.

Isadora also nice in theory but I hate Dora. What about Isolde or Isobel?

Allegra is OK, don’t like Ottilie or Ottie but I like Tilly! What about Matilda?

Or some other vowel names:
Imogen
Iris
Ophelia
Anneliese
Aurelia
Edith
Emma
Olwyn
Opal

CruCru · 18/03/2025 23:10

Allegra is really nice. And everyone will be able to spell and pronounce it.

Olympia is difficult. I used to go to the Great British Beer festival in Kensington Olympia. I think this is a name that will burden a child.

Ottilie sounds nice but I understand that in France it’s quite dated (a bit like Pauline for us). There are also a few ways of pronouncing it. If someone pronounces it the other way, will it annoy you?

Isadora is a proper name although not to my taste. It reminds me of the 70s for some reason. If people shorten it to Izzy or Dora, will it annoy you?

Egg7 · 18/03/2025 23:12

Ooh there used to be a nightclub called Isadora’s in Manchester early 90’s!

ScaredOfDinosaurs · 18/03/2025 23:16

All ghastly, very try hard, wannabe upper class. Sorry.

Kibble29 · 18/03/2025 23:21

“Hello, social services? My name is Ottilie and I’d like to put myself up for adoption.”
