Love Otillie Have loved it since Elin Hildebrand book…Summer Affair in 2008. Interestingly Elin names a child character Allegra in another book…I believe The Rumor 2022

Onlyvisiting · 19/03/2025 03:15

No to all, sorry.
I'd never even heard of Ottilie pre MN. Isadora (nn would be izzy I suspect) is the best of them, but some similar suggestions:
Isobel,
Imogen
Arabella

Olympia makes me think of ozempic for some reason.

If you actually lived in the circles where these names are used I doubt you'd be looking for validation on Mumsnet.

Ottilie: my favourite of your list. And I love the shortened version Tillie.

Isadora: cute, not to keen on Dora as a shortened version but it's a nice name.

Olympia: there's a theatre in Dublin called the Olympia so it's a no from me.

Allegra: reminds me of Pellagra so it's a no from me.

As you can see, loads of people have differing opinions, as is the case with every name. Mumsnet notoriously hates the names I have chosen for my children but I love them and they suit the kids so feck it!

YesThatsATurdOnTheRug · 19/03/2025 11:19

Love Allegra, like Ottilie, Olympia reminds me of lymph which is just too internal, Isadora would just be yet another Issy. Or Dory which is worse 😬

Jessieshome · 19/03/2025 14:39

Gosh the meanies are really out on this thread!😃

To be fair though, I'm not usually a big fan on these sort of names but I think Otillie is one of the most gorgeous names I've heard! Allegra is nice too.

Isadora sounds a bit like a magicians assistant, and Olympia is rather intense, quite a lot to live up to!

WaltzingWaters · 19/03/2025 14:41

Ottilie is beautiful. Not a fan of the others.
Allegra sounds like a medicine.

Neves7 · 19/03/2025 14:44

Allegra is an allergy medication. Heavily advertised in the states.

Waterlilysunset · 19/03/2025 14:46

It’s true OP if you are posh these names are fine (I like Allegra)

If you are bang average it seems very aspirational

Ceramiq · 19/03/2025 14:54

I don't like any of them - they are pretentious and frilly and will pigeonhole your daughter. Also likely to be shortened to predictable nicknames.

CaptainBeanThief · 19/03/2025 14:55

Sorry I just thought of algebra in regards to algera

ArtTheClownIsNotAMime · 19/03/2025 14:56

All equally bad.

Ottilie - doen't sound nice. too frilly, will be Otty or Tilly
Isadora - another Issy. only ok with the middle name Belle. ding dong.
Olympia - a lot to live up to. Victoria is much nicer if you like tube station names.
Allegra - pretty but will be 'Legs'

WhereAreWeNow · 19/03/2025 15:56

I'm not a fan of any of these but if I had to pick one I'd go for Allegra. Nice meaning and sound. Could be shortened to Ally.

outofofficeagain · 19/03/2025 16:53

I don’t think you should name your child after a car. The Austin Allegro wasn’t even a good car.

Ottillie if you must but there are too many straight lines in it for me.

cinnamongirl123 · 19/03/2025 16:58

I love Allegra.
All very, um, grand names

Chunkilumptious · 19/03/2025 17:08

Bit much fuss, sorry.

Olympia and Allegra sound like or are proprietary names too which puts me off. Otillie, all frill, no substance to me.

Best of the bunch is Isadora. Still a bit fussy though. Isadore is quite nice. Can that be feminine? Or Isidore?

Someone mentioned Antonia which is long but more substantial.

Allegra isn't Allegro. The Allegro would be cool now.

Love Isadora and Olympia is cool.

I know 605 Ottilies and as someone else said, it’s come from nowhere so has become the new Arlo type name.

Allegra does scream posh - not necessarily a bad thing.

TeaIsNice · 19/03/2025 18:12

none

Londonmummy66 · 19/03/2025 18:25

Allegra - Ottilie is likely to date, Isadora will be abbreviated to Dora and Olympia is just too reminiscent of the conference centre.... Allegra is really lovely though.

May as well call her Fiesta or Micra. Carolla also an option.

DurdleSnore · 19/03/2025 21:24

For a baby: Allegra or Ottilie

For a horse: Olympia
