My DP and I are expecting our first, surname will be his of Moon, which I absolutely love (didn't take my ex H surname for what I claimed were feminist reasons at the time but it was made easier cos his surname was complete shite)

Anyway as much as I love the surname I'm finding it can tend to make an otherwise 'normal' name come across more hippy dippy, not necessarily a bad thing but wanted to run by the mumsnet clan our shortlist:

Theodore 'Teddy' Moon
Rupert Moon
Jasper Moon
Felix Moon

For a girl the only one we really like and agree on is Matilda Moon.

Teddy

Pomegranatemum · 07/02/2025 08:15

They’re all nice OP 😊

Radiatorvalves · 07/02/2025 08:18

Honestly I quite like all of them, although I do associate Jasper with black labs! Usually I hate 90% of the ideas in baby name threads!

Treeleaf11 · 07/02/2025 08:18

I voted Felix. I think you have to be careful it doesn't sound like a cartoon character which I think Teddy Moon does. Rupert might get shortend to Roo Moon

Moonlightstars · 07/02/2025 08:18

I'ld assume you are very posh from that list!

hideawayforever · 07/02/2025 08:19

Felix

Rupert Moon is a welsh rugby player.

All but Rupert!

I prefer Jasper Moon

Yeah I'm definitely leaning that way too.

Just did and sent his photo to DP who commented he looks unnervingly like his dad 😂

Rupert Moon is to ‘oo’-heavy. (Sorry, rugby-playing Rupert Moon.) Theodore is much the best of your list. I would avoid anything that sounds like a descriptor of Moon — jasper being a gemstone makes Jasper Moon sound a little like a hippy crystals shop.

I did think this.
It's in Glastonbury and run by a woman who has a side hustle on Etsy of selling windchimes.

Jasper Moon - the names sound better together. Congratulations OP 🎊

'(didn't take my ex H surname for what I claimed were feminist reasons at the time but it was made easier cos his surname was complete shite)'

Is he a one of that minor aristocratic family the 'Complete-Shites of Jaywick'?

WoahThreeAces · 07/02/2025 08:59

Teddy Moon is so cute! And Theodore Moon is an awesome name. Or Theo Moon? Ted Moon? All amazing

Jillybloop393 · 07/02/2025 09:09

Congratulations! I'm liking 'Teddy', because Theo Moon sounds wonderful!

Yes! Exactly! She was born Brenda Jones but now goes by Onyx Windhover and dabbles in shamanism.😀

BootballJoy · 07/02/2025 09:14

Great list. Felix is one of my favourite names - but I voted Teddy because Teddy Moon/Theo Moon/Ted Moon all sound really good.

I'ld assume you are very posh from that list!

A couple of decades ago that might have been the case but these names are very widely used now, top 100 names. Not necessarily posh at all.

LookingAtMyBhunas · 07/02/2025 08:26

Yeah I'm definitely leaning that way too.

I like the name but it comes across as a moon made of jasper. I don’t think two nouns work.

Scams · 07/02/2025 09:28

Theo Moon is lovely, Teddy Moon sounds a bit Pooh Bear to me.

I can imagine Theo Moon as a grown up in the real world, Teddy not so much.

Clevs · 07/02/2025 09:48

All nice names but Felix goes better with the surname in my opinion.
