My DP and I are expecting our first, surname will be his of Moon, which I absolutely love (didn't take my ex H surname for what I claimed were feminist reasons at the time but it was made easier cos his surname was complete shite)

Anyway as much as I love the surname I'm finding it can tend to make an otherwise 'normal' name come across more hippy dippy, not necessarily a bad thing but wanted to run by the mumsnet clan our shortlist:

Theodore 'Teddy' Moon
Rupert Moon
Jasper Moon
Felix Moon

For a girl the only one we really like and agree on is Matilda Moon.

Wolf
Buck
Hunter

probably not Pink

Teddy Moon sounds like a children's book character imo but Theodore Moon doesn't . I like Felix.

Our childhood friends were The Moons so it has a nice association for me 😊

I chose Theodore Moon 10/10

Second choice is Felix Moon 10/10.

SecondMrsTanqueray · 07/02/2025 10:19

I like them all, and used one of them.

Teddy Moon sounds a bit like a cartoon character though. Theo would be better.

Not keen on alliterative names, so I’d not go with Matilda.

GreenManalishi · 07/02/2025 10:25

Teddy Moon is a cartoon, Rupert Moon has too many oo's and will end up being RooMoon, Jasper Moon is a holistic therapist which might float your boat, leaving Felix Moon which doesn't have any immediate connotations and the two names run nicely into each other.

DaytimeDetective · 07/02/2025 10:30

Theodore or Felix get my vote. I don't like Teddy Moon sounds too cutesy though.

I'm not sure on Matilda Moon, the alliteration sounds quite twee.

PenneyFouryourthoughts · 07/02/2025 10:30

Theodore Moon or Teddy Moon gets my vote. The last two names are for dogs, and Rupert is a bear.

AnnaQuayInTheUk · 07/02/2025 10:32

Showing my age here, but I really want you to call him Harvey

Felix goes best with moon

Chuchoter · 07/02/2025 10:37

Felix or Theodore are both lovely

mrsm43s · 07/02/2025 10:40

Just to put a spanner in the works, I don't think Matilda Moon works well. Alliteration can work, but it just doesn't seem to on these names.

How about
Jessica Moon
Tabitha Moon
Susanna Moon
Alicia Moon?

LolaJ87 · 07/02/2025 10:41

Felix Moon is lovely!

I clicked Teddy, although I actually think Theo Moon flows better. All good names though!

shoopshoopdedoo · 07/02/2025 10:51

Theodore Moon is my favourite, followed by Felix. Teddy is very popular, if that bothers you? Rupert is OK.

Jasper is one of my least favourite names, so I’d personally avoid it, but it works OK with the surname if you love it.

eggandonion · 07/02/2025 10:58

I know a Willow Moon, she teaches yoga.
Theodore Moon could be a spy, surgeon, barrister, actor, anything he wants.

wandawaves · 07/02/2025 11:04

Teddy Moon sounds silly IMO.

Jasper Moon is my favourite.

I also agree with PP's that Matilda Moon sounds a bit silly too.

Tabitha Moon sounds witchy 🧙‍♀️

Mumofgirls2017 · 07/02/2025 11:31

Love all your options probs jasper the most, love Matilda Moon ❤️

Boardingschoolmumoftwo · 07/02/2025 11:35

I have two boys with names on your list and a single syllable surname and I’m still struggling to choose because the surname does make it sound a bit hippy. I think I would go with Theodore, nicknames Teddy or Ted

Giggorata · 07/02/2025 11:39

I like Felix best and Matilda is lovely with that surname.
I have a friend whose surname is Moon, which is of Irish ancestry.
Both she and her sister have very unusual, slightly fey names, which go very well, but obvs I can't say, as it would be super outing.

MomBruh · 07/02/2025 11:47

Felix Moon sounds like a character in a book. I love it.

Rupert is a great name, but I know one and its like the opposite of growing into a name has happened. Only my opinion, but the very cute name on a toddler now feels odd on a tween.
