Lyra's sibling is called...

36 weeks pregnant and the sex of the baby is a surprise.

For a boy we love Harry and that will be his name.

Girls is the struggle. We can't have/don't want another L name, which rules out names we like such as Lilian. Our surname is also a colour, so we don't want a flower or gem.

Don't like anything too twee or floral sounding. Would like something feminine and strong, like Lyra....

Names we like but won't use:
Lilian
Ruby
Charlotte
Sienna
Violet
Harper

Names we like and might potentially use:
Bridget (Bridie)
Nina
Harriet (Hattie)
Eloise

If anyone has any other suggestions please give me your thoughts!

Go with Cassia/Cassie or Heidi
They are gorgeous!

Cassie still a very strong contender imo...

Lyra by itself or with another girl's name just sounds like a strong girl's name, but I'd be concerned that Lyra and Harry together is too overwhelmingly mid-1990s children's fiction themed. :-/

This hasn't crossed my mind, but honestly doesn't bother me. Not sure if it should

I adore Nina Green! I actively sought out assonance in my children’s names but didn’t manage it with either! Sounds so poetic to me to have a hint of internal rhyme. Interesting others would avoid. Why naming is so subjective, I suppose

Love Nina generally. Feminine and strong. Great choice OP

It's not Green, but I also like Nina Green

I personally prefer Harriet with Lyra just because of the different ending, but also really like the name Nina!

You could do Nina Harriet and incorporate both of your favourites?

This has been another thought of mine since thinking about too many 'a' sounds in the name. Harriet as a middle name also gives both me and DH our choices and hits my 3 syllables quota 😂

I don't think they're too close if you love it, they're very different sounding names. And they won't always be a pair, they'll be out in the world as individuals. It was just my preference if you liked both names equally ☺️ hope the heartburn and insomnia feels better, I had both pregnant it was awful!

I also agree they're individual people and won't spend their lives being referred to as "Lyra and Nina".

Aww thank you! Not helped by the fact today my toddler decided 5:36 was her wake up time 🤦🏼‍♀️😂

Nina Harriet is perfect.

twobluehorses · 21/12/2024 07:57

Harriet has an obvious nickname in Harry

i know two Nina’s. Both get called “Neen” which isn’t as pretty

For a boy Lyra and Theo. Axel. Duke. Arlo. Ethan. Finn.

For a girl Lyra and Tess. Nova. Eden. Cleo. Indie. Bonnie. Melody.

I read the first post and immediately came to comment Nina. And then read this beautiful update. A huge congrats xx I hope you are enjoying being a family of four! X

I really like Maya or Mya and also Maive.

GreyhoundGal1 · 17/01/2025 14:46

Congratulations! Lovely name. What did you go with for middle name in the end?

Not2identifying · 17/01/2025 15:48

Still undecided. I'd like Harriet but my husband really wants Alexandra (his middle name is Alexander and we would have used that if he was a boy, plus DD1's middle name is after my nana so it would be a nod to his side also) but I worry about too many "a" sounds in the name.....

What does everyone think:

Nina Harriet (surname - colour)
Nina Alexandra (surname -colour)

Nina Harriet is my favourite but I also like the idea of the family connection to Alexandra (I guess your surname isn’t Green though as NAG aren’t great initials! 😁)
