36 weeks pregnant and the sex of the baby is a surprise.

For a boy we love Harry and that will be his name.

Girls is the struggle. We can't have/don't want another L name, which rules out names we like such as Lilian. Our surname is also a colour, so we don't want a flower or gem.

Don't like anything too twee or floral sounding. Would like something feminine and strong, like Lyra....

Names we like but won't use:
Lilian
Ruby
Charlotte
Sienna
Violet
Harper

Names we like and might potentially use:
Bridget (Bridie)
Nina
Harriet (Hattie)
Eloise

If anyone has any other suggestions please give me your thoughts!

I have a Harriet which was shortened by her friends to Hattie when she started school. I absolutely love the name

Our granddaughter Lyra has a sister called Freya

I like Freya, but not enough to use it

Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

I think Nina is my number one choice. Now have the struggle of a middle name 😅

Love this ❤️

I personally prefer Harriet with Lyra just because of the different ending, but also really like the name Nina!

You could do Nina Harriet and incorporate both of your favourites?

EducatingArti · 19/12/2024 18:56

If your surname is Green, I think Nina Green is too many ee sounds. Nina Brown would be fine though.

SnappyCroc · 19/12/2024 18:57

Penelope or Alexander (but Harry is fine).

ladygindiva · 19/12/2024 21:10

I like Nina but also ..Freya ?

Mugcake · 19/12/2024 22:03

Aurelia
Persephone
Ophelia
Juliet
Etta
Sienna
Jasmine
Thea

I adore Nina Green! I actively sought out assonance in my children’s names but didn’t manage it with either! Sounds so poetic to me to have a hint of internal rhyme. Interesting others would avoid. Why naming is so subjective, I suppose

Love Nina generally. Feminine and strong. Great choice OP

Willow?

Hester

Clever.

i also suggest Stelmaria, Sacilia and Kirjava

BestZebbie · 19/12/2024 23:08

Lyra by itself or with another girl's name just sounds like a strong girl's name, but I'd be concerned that Lyra and Harry together is too overwhelmingly mid-1990s children's fiction themed. :-/

FraterculaArctica · 19/12/2024 23:20

Cleo or Imogen. I think it's better to avoid another name ending in "a", and I love Harriet but it doesn't have the right vibe to me.

Whowahway123 · 19/12/2024 23:23

Realta
Luna
Nova
Aurora

leia24 · 19/12/2024 23:26

Go with Cassia/Cassie or Heidi
They are gorgeous!

Yuckyyuckyuckity · 19/12/2024 23:29

Lyra and Nina sound gorgeous together but I also love Aurora, works well with Lyra as it has that whole celestial theme.

Or how about Aurelia?

I really don't like Harriet, I don't know why but it just feels like the name of someone boring, prim and proper, no offense to anyone with this name!

ForeverinBJ · 19/12/2024 23:45

My first thought was Lola
Lyra and Lola, you said you don't want an L name again but it has a lovely ring to it

mathanxiety · 20/12/2024 00:01

Bridget and Harriet are absolutely gorgeous!

Other suggestions:
Juno
Vera
Cleo
Naomi
Edith
Estelle
Tamsin

Late pregnancy insomnia and heartburn has me up!! So many lovely suggestions. Thanks so much everyone.

I am slightly conscious that the 'a' sound for both of their names might be too much. Which is why my second choice was Bridget. DH absolutely adores Harriet and whilst I really like it, it doesn't feel on the same wavelength as Lyra, Nina or Bridget.

Turns out we prefer 2 syllable names (Hattie would be the NN for Harriet) but prefer 3-4 syllable middle names.

Ahhh we had Lyra's name picked out so surely from about 25 weeks, so this feels hard 😂
