Lyra's sibling is called...

36 weeks pregnant and the sex of the baby is a surprise.

For a boy we love Harry and that will be his name.

Girls is the struggle. We can't have/don't want another L name, which rules out names we like such as Lilian. Our surname is also a colour, so we don't want a flower or gem.

Don't like anything too twee or floral sounding. Would like something feminine and strong, like Lyra....

Names we like but won't use:
Lilian
Ruby
Charlotte
Sienna
Violet
Harper

Names we like and might potentially use:
Bridget (Bridie)
Nina
Harriet (Hattie)
Eloise

If anyone has any other suggestions please give me your thoughts!

I was going to say Cassie. Also Nancy.

BuzzieLittleBee · 19/12/2024 10:51

Nina is woefully underused. A lovely, timeless name that fits all your criteria. I'd definitely go with that.

greeneyessparksfly · 19/12/2024 10:52

Indi
Ada
Serafina (Sera,Seffy for short)
Rosalina

Edited to add Serafina is of course from his dark materials, but when I think of Lyra i always think of this trilogy.

Ines and Chloe would also work but Chloe might be too 'pretty' from what you've said.

I think you should go with Nina!

20yearagegap · 19/12/2024 12:54

I like Hattie from your list.

Hattie Green

unless its White.

Hattie White doesn't sound as good

Mailys · 19/12/2024 12:55

Hattie!

Melodie
Maple
Holly

Don't know why, but just think they're nice with Lyra!

WoahThreeAces · 19/12/2024 12:56

Mirabelle

Ontheflipside_ · 19/12/2024 13:20

Thanks so much everyone! Some really lovely suggestions.

Some we can't use, and others that are really nice but don't feel like "us".

I think from feedback/ other suggestions the shortlist is definitely Nina and Harriet. My favourite being Nina and DH's being Harriet.

But he named Lyra so I get final say this time 😂

I have a Cora . If my second child had been a girl we were going to call her Lyra . May be a bit matchy for most but I loved it .

I do love it, but I don't like shortening of 'Viv'. May potentially use as a middle name though...

I love Nina! I think it’s better with Lyra than Hattie, not that it matters. I think of Harriet in the same vein as Charlotte and Elizabeth. Maybe Nina Harriet?

Love Harry for a boy.

Really don’t like Eloise although it’s always very popular on here!

LemonChiffon · 19/12/2024 15:42

How about Kezia? It's my girls name I love but couldn't use!

3within3 · 19/12/2024 16:01

I have a Nina, I love it 🥰

3within3 · 19/12/2024 16:02

If your DH doesn’t like Stella, how about Estelle?

or Robyn? That goes well with Lyra

Ooh never heard of Hester. I like it, but I feel like it could get confused with Esther...

It’s the Latin form of Esther. It’s my DD’s name - she’s 29 now and hasn’t really had issues with this. She loves her name and has always had compliments on it. Unusual but not daft.

Another vote in Nina 🥰 it's my top choice, so nice to have the validation

It's nice, but not my favourite. And I don't think it suits our family. But thank you for the suggestion
