Persephone

My cousin just named her baby daughter 'Persephone'

What do you think. It's a bit out there. I know she wanted a long feminine and unusual name. I think it's nice but it's a bit long.

It's a bit of a mouthful. She's already calling her by the nickname 'Seph'.

Well used?

I don't think it is. I've only met one in my entire life.

Yeah, it's actually extremely unusual and I'm yet to actually meet a Persephone.

Persi
^

The parents do.

ThePoliteLion · 04/12/2024 21:57

Persephone is also the name of an excellent publishing house specialising in women writers

Moreteaandchocolate · 04/12/2024 22:07

I find Persephone a bit pretentious sounding, but I do love Sephy for short.

BibbityBobbityToo · 04/12/2024 22:09

Poor child, sounds like something you play in a brass band.

BootballJoy · 04/12/2024 22:13

Beautiful name

fairytailcat · 04/12/2024 22:15

Lovely name

I would prefer Percy as a NN though

Goditsbad · 04/12/2024 22:21

I like Seraphina, is that just as bad?

At least no one would have trouble pronouncing it

A lovely sister for Telephone

Viviennemary · 04/12/2024 22:53

It's so pretentious. Does it actually exist outside of MN.

😂😂
From now on I will pronounce it tel-Eh-phon-ie. So much classier.

CrushingOnRubies · 04/12/2024 22:56

I really like it . NN Percy is great.

theduchessofspork · 04/12/2024 23:10

I think it's mildly popular, so not as wacky as it would have been. Percie is pretty awful but Sephie is fine,

bananamum13 · 04/12/2024 23:14

I love it - my bf dd has the name - suits her perfectly.

bananamum13 · 04/12/2024 23:24

Nn Persie.

Itjustkeepsoncoming · 05/12/2024 11:09

I love it!

I don't think you will have any issues with pronunciation. Most people will know that no child would be called Percy-phone, and if you break down Per-seph-o-ne it's quite straight forward.

Leeloo1233 · 05/12/2024 12:14

Well it rules out her ever moving to Finland where perse means arse. Hope she doesn't fall in love with a Finnish bloke. I mean there's not many of them so she's probably safe

OrlandointheWilderness · 05/12/2024 12:14

It's beautiful!

RuthW · 05/12/2024 12:18

Lovely name

It often comes up on here as a popular name. But I think it's actually fucking hideous. 😱 I can't imagine giving a little girl such a ridiculous name. Seriously!

How bloody rude! 😱

Thanks for the warning 😆

My daughter is friends with one who goes by Percy. Wouldn't use it myself but do like it.

itsalwaysthesame · 04/12/2024 21:21

I've only ever heard this name mentioned in MN, I really dislike it, it's spelling and the sound of it, same with clementine, both MN names which in real life I've never heard of.

Winston Churchill's wife was called Clementine. And then there's the song!

WhereAreWeNow · 18/12/2024 22:42

I think it's a pretty name but Persephone was such a tragic character - I would avoid it for that reason.
