PennyLane335 · 21/10/2024 19:09

I am expecting baby number 3 early next year and we are not finding out the gender so I need suggestions of boys and girls names.

Baby number 3 will be sibling to Sloane (girl) and Miller (boy).

Names we like (but are set on) so you can get our vibe-

Boys

  • Archer
  • Henley
  • Cash
  • Lennox

Girls

  • Elara
  • Delaney
  • Lennie
  • Gia

@ODFOx I mentioned above, Sloane we just liked as it was unusual- heard it from Ferris Beuller and Miller is my mother's maiden name.

In the UK yes :)

I also assumed you were in the US as Sloane in the U.K. would be associated with London, Sloane Square and Sloane rangers etc
So I would definitely not pick Cash knowing that now.
Or anywhere else with a place name like Sutton. Which would be a bit of a contrast to Sloane 🤣

Wow really astonishing how rude and cruel some people are :(

Thanks to everyone for your amazing suggestions. I have added to my list

Well at least you know which areas of London names to avoid now :)

The thing is it’s impossible to put a name thread on a forum and not get negative comments as well as positive ones, it’s always going to happen no matter what the names are.

Admittedly some your name options are quite out there for not being American (which has always had names that sound weird to the UK, Brick, Bronx). Ultimately it’s your choice and it really doesn’t matter what others think.

Miller & Carter is actually a franchise of affordable steak houses, or at least it is in south of england: https://www.millerandcarter.co.uk/#/
Solicitors would be an upmarket take, one I don’t think is warranted in this instance, verging on a compliment.

Sloan's is the oldest pub in Glasgow, quite an upmarket pub, but still a public house.

Op still needs to be careful with what she calls the next child. Or they will sound like a business of some description.

Well, Mn isn’t a separate universe, so there will be people in your children’s lives having the same thoughts but not expressing them, so maybe think about that?

Gcsunnyside23 · 22/10/2024 08:02

But you can do that with any set of names, lady at work sounds like she's writing a dickens novel when she rhymes off her 5 kids names. Same with mum at school it's just really obvious bible names. But they are all nice names individually and it doesn't really matter if someone thinks they sound a certain way

I really don’t like it when someone has several kids and they’re all give a name pattern. All names starting with T or all have religious names (Josiah, Jeremiah, Jebediah, which weirdly also all begin with J).

Very upmarket. My niece is getting married there in summer, and it's gorgeous.

Is the whole point of asking on MN not so you get honest answers?

People in RL won't want to offend or upset so they'll say things are "lovely" or "nice" even if they walk away thinking "OMG how ridiculous?"

Never been in it, I just know off it. If that makes sense.

Hazelmaybe · 22/10/2024 10:05

Quinn?

PennyLane335 · 22/10/2024 10:07

@Needanewname42 no not really. I didn't ask for anyone's opinion on my children's names I asked for suggestions on names.

Some people are just being damn right rude.

@StillAtTheRestaurant I don't know why people comment if they have nothing nice to say honestly.

Are you new on Mumsnet?

I like cash actually.

shoopshoopdedoo · 22/10/2024 10:13

We don’t share the same taste in names at all, but I do love Lennie (prefer Leni) for a girl!

AlexaSetATimer · 22/10/2024 10:15

Yes this. Your friends and family won't want to offend so will just go along with whatever while thinking "wtf" Confused poor kid".
At least on here you'll get a reality check and an idea of the reaction it will have in real life - like in the Tate example!

I agree, your children’s names are lovely and , anyway, it’s incredibly rude to comment negatively on names of existing children (unless specifically asked to). It would be very boring if we all used the same names.
