I don't like the name Dustin, I just think of dustbin.

She’s the goddess of fertility and war! She rides a boar! I don’t see the name as weak 😀

Great!

I've always hated my name, it's only come up on here once but my middle name is Rose which I quite like but I was born in '77 so perhaps before the word and his wife chose it as a middle name as well!

I couldn't get upset about someone online hating my name, it's funny and actually quite interesting how tenuous connections colour our opinions so fervently!

This is a mean spirited thread.

Yes, you’d better read it 1 more time just to make sure. Then refresh for new comments. Then you’ll definitely stop reading.

After Dusty Springfield perhaps?
She was a gay icon.

Or Dusty Bin.
He was a bin.

Mb57 · 30/08/2024 20:35

Kayden and Jayden every one I’ve taught has been a little shit

Emma. The most boring name ever!

It is! In a novel I read when I was younger I'm sure a character said "Emma is a fat girl's name" - awful, but I can't get it out of my head.

17caterpillars1mouse · 30/08/2024 21:03

I can't stand Seth, I don't know why I just hate it. It irritates me.

Also really not a fan of Sienna

I was doing some admin for a creche recantly came across the name Dusty. Don't know if its a boy or a girl but why, just why?

Music fans maybe? Someone I met recently has a Dolly and Dusty, they're expecting a 3rd and considering Doris or Elton. I suggested David to match their D trend. Each to their own!!!

It makes them sound like law firms.

Haha 😛

These are my children Taylor Parker & Sutton 😂

I’d never thought about that before!

Mingus (makes me think minge)
Mungo (makes me think mung beans)
Fergus (makes me think fungus)
Clive (sounds smarmy to me)
Maude (makes me think maudlin)
Mildred (makes me think mildew)
Ethel (didn't like Ethel Hallow in The Worst Witch)
Ottilie (makes me think otter)
Ptolemy (twat)
Clementine (makes me think phlegm)

There are plenty of names that are perfectly lovely but I just wouldn't use them, doesn't mean I hate them though. The ones above though... I just can't get past what I think of when I hear them.

You know I never liked Ethel (grandma's name) but I discovered yesterday the first ever female ruler of Britain in her own right was called Æthelflæd, which would later become Ethel. So it's been around since like 900AD or something. Still wouldn't use it for a child but it made me have a whole new level of respect for the name!!

I really didn't want to see my name on here.. but I've learnt that I'm both boring and slimy

Some random on the internet using those adjectives to describe their opinion of a name does not make you those things. It's just someone opinion!!

jonesybonesy · 30/08/2024 21:13

Romi/Romy I have no idea why it's so popular on Mumsnet

Gardennotebook · 30/08/2024 21:14

@IneedsomeSleeppleasenow I think Emma is lovely.

Literally - I'm fine with people saying they don't like my name, but no need for them to go in and be bitchy! Some comments are unnecessary

elm26 · 30/08/2024 21:19

Horrible thread and really distasteful and hurtful to a lot of people.

My little girl is Tilly, I'm an Ellen nicknames Ellie. I've been mentioned in particular as a "nothing name" or all the Ellen's she's met have been "batshit crazy"

Just not nice.

Emily - slimy
Anna - boring and lacking any inspiration
Paul- boring
Emma - slimy
Jack - boring
Lucy - slimy

All very WASPy names to ensure the reader knows the likely heritage of the owner.

Well - I am a white Protestant woman Confused

Should I have called my kids Muhammed and Aisha?
