I don't like the name Dustin, I just think of dustbin.

I really like the name Aaron, and I have a soft spot for the name Maude. I read a book when I was a child, and the old woman in it was called Maude. There was a character called Twyla too. Lovely.

StoatofDisarray · 30/08/2024 19:31

Susan. I don't know why!

1984Winston · 30/08/2024 19:34

I hate double barrelled first names, just pick a name

What a horrible thread.

I dislike loads of names, but as I know full well that hundreds of Mumsnetters will have those names themselves, or will have chosen them for their children, or will love someone with those names, I'm not about to say what they are.

My middle name appears on this thread and I think it's funny. Not everyone is a sensitive piss baby.

PetulantPenguin · 30/08/2024 19:51

I'm finding this quite interesting and I've seen some of my children's names mentioned, and mine and am not upset

beryldaperil · 30/08/2024 19:55

Emily - slimy
Anna - boring and lacking any inspiration
Paul- boring
Emma - slimy
Jack - boring
Lucy - slimy

All very WASPy names to ensure the reader knows the likely heritage of the owner.

Neveah

I came to say this - there are many terrible names in the world, but this one makes me cringe 😬

Sofabookhotchoc · 30/08/2024 19:58

Trevor and Grenville

You win! 🏆

PetulantPenguin · 30/08/2024 20:01

Yay I have name bingo, all of my children's names have been mentioned and mine too and I'm sure my husbands must have been. It has to 🤣 Giving myself a prize for a full house 💯

Blondiney · 30/08/2024 20:05

Freya, so weak and feeble.

Me too and I'm not upset either! It's funny. What one person loves, another hates. And most people have associations good or bad for different reasons. I just find it really interesting.

Freya, so weak and feeble.

Totally agree!

I was doing some admin for a creche recantly came across the name Dusty. Don't know if its a boy or a girl but why, just why?

I'm sure I saw that Joe Wicks' new baby is called Dusty, and I'm pretty sure it's a boy. Terrible!

It's bad enough when z list celebrities pick these stupid names, but it seems even more ridiculous when Joe-public think they can get away with giving their poor child such a silly name.

Talking of celebrities, how wonderfully refreshing to hear that Justin Bieber has bucked the trend by calling his newborn son Jack!

@NavyDeer

We're all married to Paul, Dave, James, Matthew and Simons Grin

Freya, so weak and feeble.

She’s the goddess of fertility and war! She rides a boar! I don’t see the name as weak 😀

TellerTuesday · 30/08/2024 20:16

Kai and Zak

Work in an environment that lots of kids visit (not a school) and have yet to meet one that isn't a little twat.

Rosie and Poppy for girls, hate them both and the kids that are called them are always whiny.

spaceshooter · 30/08/2024 20:18

Mine and my mothers names are in here, highly amusing!!

BoleynMemories13 · 30/08/2024 20:18

MissMoan · 30/08/2024 19:01

Names that sound differently from how they are spelled, such as Hermione or
Nimah.

And for some reason, Roger, Jermaine, Beryl, and Aaron

The irony being that you've spelt Niamh wrong! 😂

Biggirlnow · 30/08/2024 20:20

Jamie and Maeve
Caleb and Moira
Amelia and Gus

Viviennemary · 30/08/2024 20:20

Toby. It's awful. It's gone out of favour now I think.

spaceshooter · 30/08/2024 20:22

How do you pronounce Nevaeh anyway?

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 30/08/2024 20:24

blackrabbitwhiterabbit · 30/08/2024 17:15

That's two of my children's names right there. Nice thread.

Why are being so touchy. Fair enough I don’t get to decide what you or anyone else gets touchy about. However you’re carrying on like it’s a personal attack.

marshmallowfinder · 30/08/2024 20:26

Amelia is truly awful due to the mealy noise it makes. Also, amelia is a medical term meaning absence of limbs.😱

Margot (maggot)
Lyra (lycra)
Violet (violent)
Aurora (wor wor wah)
Lachlan (bringing up phlegm noise)
Thomas (not sure why!)

My name's come up on here a few times, and my son's. No big deal. Im not bothered in the slightest. You can't please all of the people all of the time!
