Garri for a girl?

My late dad was called Gary. I'd love to honour him by naming our DD Garri, or do you think it's better spelt Gari? Middle name will be Anne.
Thanks in advance

Nice try 😂

ChaosAndCrumbs · 03/05/2024 23:44

Very similar to that song by The Hollies. Carrie-Ann.

EwwSprouts · 03/05/2024 23:49

Gaura is a type of flower which is better than giving her a male name. Let her be her own person and cherish the memories of your Dad.

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 03/05/2024 23:52

Maybe there are some other names in your dad's side of the family you could use, instead of inflicting a male name on a baby girl - for life or at least until she changes her name by deed pole...

KnickerlessParsons · 03/05/2024 23:53

Middle name Baldi??

caringcarer · 03/05/2024 23:57

It's clearly a boy's name. It's not really fair on your DD to make her have a boys name. There is a song called 'A boy named Sue'. I'd save the name Gary until you might have a boy or at least try to make it sound feminine EG. Gariella.

Littledidsheknow · 03/05/2024 23:58

Beyond awful.

MumChp · 04/05/2024 00:06

I don't fancy it for a girl.

buttnut · 04/05/2024 00:09

Maybe double-barrel it with Anne so it’s more obviously feminine

Other suggestions-

Garri-Mae
Garri-Rose

😂

pinkdelight · 04/05/2024 00:13

Gazza will be a sweet nickname, esp when she's crying.

MyRobotFriend · 04/05/2024 00:13

Nooooooo.

NameChange30 · 04/05/2024 00:16

Sorry that your dad died Flowers
Do you have your dad's surname? If so you could pass it on to your daughter as well. That would be the best way to honour him.
Otherwise, what was his middle name? What about his initials? Maybe there's a way to use a female version of his middle name or use the initials or parts of his name for a feminine name.
You obviously can't call her "Garri" or any other spelling variation.

Jentefieldroamer · 04/05/2024 00:18

I like the name, so if you like it, go with it. In 20 years will be a different response.

AllIWantToDo · 04/05/2024 00:24

There's a huge reason no one is using this name anymore. What about Myra or Rose?

checkedshirts · 04/05/2024 00:46

Gary is also rhyming slang...

I don't fancy it for a boy.

Floralnomad · 04/05/2024 00:53

If you must do it use it as a middle name where nobody ever needs to know .

ProfessorFJLewisThatsYouThatIs · 04/05/2024 00:57

At a time when nobody is calling their sons Gary anymore, you want to give it to a girl?!

BrieHugger · 04/05/2024 01:00

pinkdelight · 04/05/2024 00:13

Gazza will be a sweet nickname, esp when she's crying.

Or fishing

How about Geri? Or even Gray/Grace? Definitely not Garri.

SnowFrogJelly · 04/05/2024 01:01

Noooooooooooo

Fr7fr6 · 04/05/2024 01:03

Is this a wind up?

Sosige · 04/05/2024 01:08

If Terri and Toni are acceptable, then why isn't Garri? I also know or a girl called Harri.

I think it's super cute for a girl. I like the Garri-Anne suggestion. Thanks!
