Love Elsie too x

wizzler · 01/05/2024 23:32

Really don't like it ..I just think of On the Buses which is odd as it's over 50 years since I saw it

I'm almost 60 though and so probably my opinion of the name of your dd won't carry too much weight.

When I named DS Archie my Dparents mumbled about Archie Andrews who I'd never heard of, it's a generation thing

It's nice but have you considered Jimberly?

😁

LoreleiG · 02/05/2024 00:17

It makes me think of Olive Oyl. But, it’s actually a really sweet name.

ps edited to change the spelling as I mean from Popeye not actual olive oil!

It's a lovely name but yes, the first thing that comes to mind is Olive from On the Buses.

Me too..must be the same vintage!

Frances0911 · 02/05/2024 00:33

I immediately thought of Olive from on the buses, though you might not be old enough to remember. I think there's nicer sounding names tbh.

user1477391263 · 02/05/2024 01:00

I think it’s really really drab and ugly. I like eating olives but that also applies to lamb chops and I wouldn’t inflict that on a child.

Makes me think of a short dumpy overweight woman with huge plastic glasses.

Benthany · 02/05/2024 01:33

2Old2Tango · 30/04/2024 07:21

I also prefer Olivia. I'm old and to me Olive will always be that woman from On The Buses.

That's exactly who I was thinking of. 🤣🤣🤣Olivia is prettier but is a popular name choice.

Or Benthany oh that thread.🤣🤣🤣

PlanetDog · 02/05/2024 01:42

I think it’s really awful. 😬

Although it’s obviously very like Olivia, it has a totally different vibe/feel to me.

NowWhatUsernameShallIHave · 02/05/2024 03:46

It’s not ugly but just reminds me of olive oyl from popeye

olivia is much prettier

AquaPearl9 · 02/05/2024 04:17

Absolutely adore the name Olive! It was on our list of names when I was pregnant. It’s not very common and so cute.

MariaVT65 · 02/05/2024 05:48

I am very grateful not to have the same name as food/a pizza topping.

pilates · 02/05/2024 05:52

Frumpy, sorry

cuckyplunt · 02/05/2024 05:53

Doesn’t matter. With either Olive or Olivia, she’ll drop all extraneous syllables at the age of 12 and be Liv for the rest of her life anyway.

Purplecatshopaholic · 02/05/2024 05:53

It’s awful. Sounds ugly to say, and you would be naming your child after a rather unattractive looking fruit.

MonsieurSpade · 02/05/2024 05:56

I too remember Olive from On The Buses.
I don’t like Ivy either and yet I like Holly.
Makes no sense.

CremeBruleeLove · 02/05/2024 06:00

Love it. It's super cute!

PotatoPudding · 02/05/2024 06:03

I think it’s really nice, and as I’m not 99 years old, I have no clue who Olive from On the Busses is.

Ignore the haters. There’s no name everyone likes.

RedRobyn2021 · 02/05/2024 06:27

There's a little girl that goes to my DDs preschool called Olive, not a name I'd have considered but I actually think it's really nice

I also love olives Grin

eggandonion · 02/05/2024 08:43

Anyone calling a baby Olive needs to be ready to hear grannies mentioning On the Buses. And telling the new parents how awful it is.
My mum was Olive Elsie. Known in the family as OE.

Snugglemonkey · 02/05/2024 10:19

I love it!

RogueFemale · 02/05/2024 11:27

Frumpy

Under 40, well aware of the British tv programme.

Olive Oyl is off putting too.

Hello. I am genuinely surprised to encounter you Grin.

BCBird · 19/05/2024 19:04

It's a no from.me
