Nathan
Aiden

Loved those names when I was pg, but too many 'n's with our surname.

mazzystar · 28/03/2008 19:16

Selina
Gil/Gilbert
can you guess our surname?

spook · 28/03/2008 19:16

I wanted Honey if it was a girl but our surnames Pitt and we thought it sounded like some Victorian novel fanj-as in "her trembling honey pit"

'Kitty'

Our surname is Sales and I don't want to sound like we are flogging pussies!

hedgehog1979 · 28/03/2008 19:20

Hannah - due to 'helpful' drunk friends in pub pointing out that with our surname it sounds like a porn star name

Tabitha and Thomas (got a surname beginning with T!)

winebeforepearls · 28/03/2008 19:49

Honor

abigaillockhart · 28/03/2008 19:50

Sabrina - love it but couldn't stand the thought of all the 'teenage witch' comments.

Beth and Ben (guess what our surname starts with), Erica (DH not keen, but if we ever have DD3 I bet I could twist his arm!!!)

berolina · 28/03/2008 19:52

Rosamond - because we live in Germany and it is German for 'pink moon' . The fact that I dislike their German pronunciation puts paid to quite a few lovely names.

Matthias, because a schoolmate of dh's of this name was murdered

Emmanuel - because ds1 is Samuel.

Names that end in -a are not really ideal with our surname, which starts with an 'eh' type sound.

Peachy · 28/03/2008 19:53

patricia, as was my best friends name and she died at 16- but even if I'd not had a surname starting P, i'd never have a girl, just boys here.

Anything resembling a colour, flower or fruit, season, or anything too girly.

Take
summer
amber
sweetie
lola
violet
rosie

and add peach after.......

quite

cyteen · 28/03/2008 19:53

Simon. It was my brother's name, and I love it, but I could never call my child by his name - it would be too weird.

Kindersurprise · 28/03/2008 19:54

We had the same problem as Scotia, our surname starts with a N so Nathan was ruled out.

Actually, it was also because my German MIL would not be able to pronounce Nathan. Nazan does not sound the same.

Phillip and Thomas, because they are the names of close family members.

eekamoose · 28/03/2008 19:54

Mary for a girl (worst bitch person I have ever met in my life who I still loathe and despise) was called Mary, but I love the name.

Ruben for a boy. We had a boy but we just couldn't name him Ruben ... his older sister is Ruby .

Kindersurprise · 28/03/2008 19:55

Peachy
Shame, I quite like Sweetie Peach

Sounds like the heroine of a trashy novel set in Alabama.

KristinaM · 28/03/2008 19:58

Lucy - doesn't work with surname

harry - because we already have a Tom

John - because it rhymes with Tom

saskia - because all the other kids have traditional names and someone told me it was a character on a soap

Peachy · 28/03/2008 19:59

Summer and Amber Peach are better..... the all new air freshener range from Glade.

And Ruby Peach sounds like she's an 18th century mid-westerner on the game!

berolina · 28/03/2008 20:00

Benjamin is sadly out for us too, as he would be bound to be Ben at some point and the effect with dh's name (i.e. 'Ben and...') would be very comical. (And no, dh is not Bill).

Dexter... love it but our surname starts with D and the middle name we picked out starts with D as well!

LaDiDaDi · 28/03/2008 20:07

Clara because it's too much like dd's name.

Gabrielle, too much of a a mouthful with a surname begining with the same hard G sound.

I also really like Neela for a girl but not sure as neither me nor dp come from an Asian background and it's much more unusual compared with dd's. Also I know someone with this name but Iwouldn't want her to think that I named dd after her.

PeppermintPatty · 28/03/2008 20:11

Anything with a 'th' sound (ie. Faith, Beth), as surname is North.
Imagine if LO had a lisp!
