This is the only name we can agree on, what do you think?

It's not a name.
It's very close to 'Aryan' which has racist connotations.
So no.

Thisismynewusernamedoyoulikeit · 02/02/2024 22:06

Boy/girl?

Dacadactyl · 02/02/2024 22:06

I'm thinking Aryan Brotherhood....not good.

Don't even know if it's a boy or girls "name". Don't like it. Just no.

WishesPromises · 02/02/2024 22:07

Will he be blonde and blue eyed?

Gullillahvit · 02/02/2024 22:07

there’s a good reason it’s not popular…

javamum · 02/02/2024 22:08

Aryan is a popular Indian boys’ name. Not everything is about white culture…

Theredfoxfliesatmidnight · 02/02/2024 22:08

Be very careful, this is a name with racist / Nazi connotations.

Thisismynewusernamedoyoulikeit · 02/02/2024 22:08

Arian / Aryan is a very common name amongst Indians, Muslims and others - just as an FYI for all those suggesting that western European connotations are all that matter.

Bedroomconfig · 02/02/2024 22:09

Means silver in Welsh. So I didn't immediately think of Aryan personally. I've never heard it used as a name in my bit of Wales though.

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 02/02/2024 22:09

Arian is also the Welsh word for cash!

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 02/02/2024 22:10

X-posted!

NewUser1111 · 02/02/2024 22:10

I think it’s a Greek name?

SportMum1982 · 02/02/2024 22:11

Often spelt Aarian. It’s a popular Indian name we have two in my DC class!

Haffdonga · 02/02/2024 22:13

I know a Dutch Arian (short for Adrianus).

Thulpelly · 02/02/2024 22:15

‘A’ as in ‘cat/hat/an’
rather than
‘air/share/care’

so it doesn’t sound like aryan!

I know a few people with this name, all diff ages. It’s nice.

Aryan is a popular Indian boys’ name. Not everything is about white culture…

But given this is a UK site and the majority of the people who hear the name will think of the Nazi connotation, it’s a pretty important consideration for the OP to be aware of don’t you think?

Createausernametoday · 02/02/2024 22:18

i think you should make a decision yourself like people did before tinternet

And links to racism and nazi.

You’ve missed a ‘d’

I’ve never heard it pronounced to sound aryan. I’ve only heard it pronounced with the same ‘A’ sound as cat/hat/Ariana Grande

Bedroomconfig · 02/02/2024 22:21

Well yes, it's a UK site and Wales is part of the UK. Arian is pronounced completely differently to Aryan and doesn't have that connotation.

Noidontknowwhatiwant · 02/02/2024 22:21

I don’t know a arian so in my head automatically changed it to Adrian as a heads up reading it as a misspelling……

BranchGold · 02/02/2024 22:21

It’s the welsh word for money.

whats connecting you to liking it? Just the sound or any cultural things?

CatchHimDerry · 02/02/2024 22:24

As PP said it’s silver in Welsh, we have a few around here, it’s not considered in any way unusual nor with negative connotations in Welsh speaking circles / schools etc

2024theplot · 02/02/2024 22:25

I love the name Arian, in Welsh it isn't pronounced anything like Aryan. It's Welsh for silver, or money, but as a name people associate it with silver
