Why are boy names so hard?! :(

Currently pregnant with #2 and unsure of the gender as of yet. We have a girls name chosen and have had for a while, but are struggling with finding boys names we like. We like the more 'unusual' boho / nature themed names. This is the current list of names I like, but not love yet, so you get an idea.

Bear
Elijah (I like this but potentially too 'common')
Tate
Hendrix
Fox
Oren
Lennox
Wolf

All those saying for wolf and bear what if he’s small and skinny…my name is essentially a colour…im not that colour…I’m just a normal human colour, and I have never ever ever been asked, why aren’t you the colour of your name? Because that would be so ridiculously stupid of people to think, she must be that colour because her name says so…
the same as if I name my baby May, a totally and stupidly normal and common name…but she was born in September…nobody would say but you weren’t born in may.
the same as if I call my baby girl Daisy nobody is going to say to her, well you’re not a flower.
the fact that people are saying he can’t be wolf because he might not be big is literally one of the most stupid things I have ever read on MN. I mean, are you people stupid?!?! 🤦🏽‍♀️

@KayEmAy

“Hawthorne James nn Huck/Hawk”

no one would nickname the boy/man with that name those nicknames

@LuckySantangelo35 I see your point. I would have said the same to the first person who decided on Dick as a nickname for Richard lol

KayEmAy · 29/09/2023 14:25

@saffy2 Totally agree! Even if they ask for opinions/suggestions to match names I don't like, ex Clara, Ruby and Robin the most I say is, "it's not my style" and then continue to recommend Charlotte, Iris, Ruth.

...half of which are also colors, plants and a bird btw but the "acceptable" ones I guess lol

baklavagoddess · 29/09/2023 14:26

What about Orion instead of oron

kezzyleah · 29/09/2023 14:33

Love Elijah or Eli. How about Jonah?

Daisybuttercup12345 · 29/09/2023 20:19

Are you expecting an animal lol.
I'd go for Edward with Bear or Ted as nn.

YRGAM · 30/09/2023 04:29

A name can't convey a personality. If you feel that's the case for your own name then that's quite unusual, especially in a positive sense.

And if you want names that will genuinely be unusual then you want a Stuart or a Gary - while there may not be other Bears in his class, there'll be plenty of other names that are trying to be unusual and in the same style, and they'll just blend into each other.

mathanxiety · 30/09/2023 04:36

I love Elijah and Lennox.

If you like Oren, would you consider Arran?

Other suggestions:
Bram
Aram
Ira
Ivo
Leonidas
Ferdia
Fiacra
Solomon
Cormac
Casimir

You and your partner are going to be the ones saying this name 100 times a day. Whether it’s the name is popular or unusual. This is your baby and this is your choice. It has nothing to do with anyone else. Yes the name may not be to everyone’s taste but you have to go with what you love!

Please say you live in America and not the UK.

*My sister in law wanted to name their (potential) son, Buddy.

Luckily, my brother is normal and doesn't go through life as though he lives in a Disney cartoon.*

@Ameanstreakamilewide and you have tagged me in with your post because...?

SummerFunHoildayBreak · 30/09/2023 23:30

From personal experience unusual spellings of names are more annoying for the person whose name it is rather than an unusual name itself. I like the names on your list. I've not read the replies so they may have already come up but a few more suggestions...
Travis
Jude
Aaron
Crawford
Kit
Axel
Zan
