Faraday or Iris or...?

Struggling to find a girl's name I love.

I like slightly unusual but not too 'out-there' names, and also not a huge fan of girls' names ending in -a, though there are a few exceptions.

Is Faraday too out there? Any other suggestions?

Is the prostitute in breakfast at Tiffany's...

Iris is definitely one of the old lady names that has come back into fashion - there's 2 in my DS' nursery. I think it's a lovely name. Admittedly I don't know the personal circumstances with the rainbow baby comment, but it's not something I would assume.

Iris is boring and part of the eye. No to Faraday, although I love Farrah.

I know a female Faraday now in her teens. it's a lovely name.

Do you like Faraday because of Michael? If so, then maybe Hedi would be a more subtle science inspired name, after Hedi Lamarr?

As others have already said - but it needs repeating - Farida/Faridah/Farideh (and associated spellings) is a Muslim female name, meaning 'precious pearl'. I have never heard the name Faraday used as a first name.
I am familiar with it as a surname (Michael Faraday and the Faraday cage).

Iris is pretty but does make me think of eyeballs. Not keen on Faraday. However you are always going to get people having different tastes to you so what other people think shouldn’t make a difference. Otherwise we would all have the same name.

I have an Avalon. Other names I loved were Margot, Noelle, Vivienne

@continentallentil , most of them aren't made up. Iris isn't particularly overdone, it's at #70

@continentallentil Evadne's not made up - in myth, she flung herself off the Acropolis of Thebes when her husband was killed. So hideous sound and not great associations. But deffo not made up.

Has anyone suggested Balonz?

@titchy, Balonz is a bit overused here. 2 in DS1's school year and a Balonz-Rose, Balonz-Mae and Balonz-Elle in DD's school year. Think it's more or less unisex.
