Sky or Hazel for a boy

I like Sky and Hazel for boys, and was wondering what the general opinion was on their usability. Sky has been consistently used for boys in England and Wales, albeit fewer than ten babies a year, though Hazel has never registered as a boys name. I do like softer boys names generally and many like like Rowan, Robin, Sacha which are also well used for girls. For these names, I don't like them as girls names.

These aren't names I'm seriously considering using, mostly as I like other names more and it's a no from my husband anyway, but just wondered what other people thought of them

I've met men called Leslie, Lindsey, Stacey and Kelly.
Their names didn't feel girly at all.

I love the girls name Hazel but do you think any man would be happy to be called that? ‘Here’s our new IT technician Hazel’ ‘…oh, hi, we’re just waiting for Hazel, so we can start’ ‘..I am Hazel.’ X 8 decades.

That would be my thought too. I have a widely unisex name and it still happens to me regularly, alongside "but that's a boys name"

Viviennemary · 29/01/2023 17:27

They are both girl's names.

MajorCarolDanvers · 29/01/2023 17:43

Absolutely girls names - I hate Sky as a name

HumphreysCorner · 29/01/2023 17:45

Neither sorry

Wimbz20 · 29/01/2023 17:46

Neither

YouBoggleMyMind · 29/01/2023 17:52

No to both names for a boy.

chronictonic · 29/01/2023 17:53

Sorry but not a fan of either a boy

CherryAndCreamCake · 29/01/2023 17:54

Neither!

MarchingGiraffes · 29/01/2023 17:56

More ridiculous name suggestions.

What is it with parents wanting to ruin their child from birth?

ThePoshUns · 29/01/2023 18:00

Neither they are both girls names.

louderthan · 29/01/2023 18:01

Rowan is lovely. Hazel is terrible. So is Sky.

louderthan · 29/01/2023 18:07

Thinking about nature names...

Bark
Moss
Reed
Sage
Basil
Herb/Herbie
Glen
Loch (Lachlan??)
River
Leaf

It doesn't really work for boys terribly well does it?

NellietheNumpty · 29/01/2023 18:12

I like Skye
Linden
Moss
Ash
Acer
Basil

FT123456 · 29/01/2023 18:15

I wouldn't name a little boy either of those names.. sorry

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 29/01/2023 18:22

Neither. Both are awful for boys.
But I really love Rowan. Robin and Sasha for a boy

londonmummy1966 · 29/01/2023 18:47

Giving a boy a name like Hazel which is pretty well exclusively used for girls in the UK is setting them up for teasing/bullying at school and a lifetime of embarassment. I worked with a man called Beverley and he went by his (mainstream male) middle name and was incredibly embarrassed in his 40s if he ever had to fill anything in with his full name. DO you really want to inflict that on a child?

Newyear2023 · 29/01/2023 18:50

Both Willow and Hazel are awful for a boy, Sky is okay in my opinion. Imagine him at aged 15 full of teenage angst "hello I'm willow" or aged 60 as a balding man "hi I'm hazel"
No.

SkankingWombat · 29/01/2023 18:51

My grandad was called Hazel. He hated it...

itsthefinalcountdown1 · 29/01/2023 19:03

Hazel was the boy rabbit in Watership Down and Sky is the male lead in Mamma Mia I think.

However, I wouldn't at all. They're being very very feminine to me. I say this as someone who gave mu child a gender neutral name used for both sexes.

Hazel and Sky are girls names only to me.

CottonPyjamas · 29/01/2023 19:06

I've always thought of both of those names as feminine, however, I've just watched Umbrella Academy and one of the male characters was called Hazel. I've grown to really like it

thelengthspeoplegoto · 29/01/2023 19:08

Don't like either, sorry. What about Beau?

Wineandwinelalalala · 29/01/2023 19:08

God please no, this can’t be real. If it is please get a grip!

evemillbank · 29/01/2023 19:13

I only know these as girls names. So I wouldn't choose it for a boy.

VickerishAllsort · 29/01/2023 19:21

Neither. Back to the drawing board.
