Leila Clementine or Cassia Betsy?

We've narrowed down our name choices to the following. Would really appreciate if you could say which you like best? Or point out any howlers about either I've not noticed Blush

Leila Clementine
Cassia Betsy

Baby is due very shortly and is a girl. DH and I are agreed on each of the name's spelling (Layla v Leila took about 2 months!) and the order of first and middle names is because he doesn't care what she has for a middle name but doesn't like either Betsy or Clementine for a first name.

Brother is Leo.

Thanks!

Cassia is much nicer than Leila. I don't like Layla or Clementine.
Quite like Betsey but it's a diminutive of Elizabeth, which is more of a traditional middle name.

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 12/01/2023 11:53

Betsy is a rather childish nickname. Cute on a toddler but think of her entire life span.

BabyFour2023 · 12/01/2023 11:55

Clementine is awful. Truly awful.

Leila (im assuming you’re pronouncing it Lee-La instead of Layla) isn’t as nice as Cassia but I don’t think Cassia Betsy go together at all.

Yika · 12/01/2023 11:56

Leila and Cassia are both lovely names. Clementine is a nice middle name. Betsy stands out as having a completely different feel. I think it sounds very clunky with the otherwise elegant set of name choices. Therefore I’d pick either one of the first names, with Clementine as the middle name.

MetaDaughter · 12/01/2023 11:57

You do know you’re allowed more than two names? Grin I have four … Why not just pick the three you like best and have those?

SophiaLarsen · 12/01/2023 12:00

Love Leila Clementine

AnnaTortoiseshell · 12/01/2023 12:02

Leila and Leo sound quite similar to me.

Rauha · 12/01/2023 12:02

Cassia Betsy

Jericha · 12/01/2023 12:03

Thanks for comments so far. To confirm, Leila would be pronounced "Layla" and we would like to stick to one middle name only.

Lilgamesh2 · 12/01/2023 12:11

They're all good enough, just pick whatever you want. There will always be strangers on the internet that agree and disagree with you.

Personally, I love both the first names.

Not so keen on the middle names but then that's sort of the point of them. You can pick slightly more controversial ones knowing the child won't have to use them if they don't want to.

WeAreTheHeroes · 12/01/2023 12:18

Cassia is related to senna(!) and also a type of bark used as a sub for cinnamon. With one s it's a girls' name of Greek origin meaning thorny tree and a variant of Acacia. Spelt Kasia it's the Polish diminutive of Katherine.

Betsy sounds like a doll's name to me.

RuthW · 12/01/2023 12:19

Cassia Clementine

Fivebeanchilli · 12/01/2023 12:19

I like Cassia best of your first names and Clementine best of your middle names.
(I do like Betsy but I find Leila tricky just because of the different pronunciations and spellings and also because it merges with a very definite trend for similar names eg Lyra, Luna, Lila, Lily, Lyla etc).
I like Cassia Clementine or Cassia Betsy best.

Zola1 · 12/01/2023 12:22

Absolutely love the name Cassia, but not keen on Betsy. Leila/Layla is quite common around here!

JustMaggie · 12/01/2023 12:39

I like Cassia best, but Leila is also beautiful.

ChristmasCakeAndStilton · 12/01/2023 12:49

The middle names are much better.
Elizabeth (Betsy) Clementine for me.
Not convinced Leila and Leo is a great pair, and not in love with Cassia.
What about Casandra (Cassie)?

FrostyBits · 12/01/2023 12:56

Cassia - I think of Casio keyboard 🙈 (but then I'm old enough to remember them!)

Clementine is awful. Truly awful.

Leila (im assuming you’re pronouncing it Lee-La instead of Layla) isn’t as nice as Cassia but I don’t think Cassia Betsy go together at all.

Given that they spent 2 months on the spelling of Leila vs Layla, it would make sense that they want the pronunciation of Layla.

FriedEggChocolate · 12/01/2023 13:28

I wouldn't want Leila and Leo, I think, they're too alliterative.

LaLaLouella · 12/01/2023 14:13

I don't think Leila and Leo are good sibling names - too similar!

Cassia Betsey doesn't work for me either - it doesn't flow. Betsey is a diminutive of Elizabeth and too cutesy for an adult.

Cassia is ok but a bit too 80's calculator/keyboard brand for me....

LaLaLouella · 12/01/2023 14:15

And the Clementine at my DDs school gets called Clammy by the not-very-nice kids....

Luana1 · 12/01/2023 14:28

Cassia Clementine gets my vote. Betsy is just a bit too cutesy and a nickname.

DurdleSnore · 12/01/2023 16:32

I think Leo and Leila are too similar so my vote goes to Cassia. Not keen on Betsy. I like Clementine best out of all the names though.

Leo and Clementine?

DurdleSnore · 12/01/2023 16:34

Sorry just read your husband not keen on Clemmie as first name.

Cassia Clementine

Delicious, sounds like a Fever Tree flavour
