Having a hard time choosing. I like Autumn and DH likes Rose. But not keen on either as it sounds like a description rather than a name. Open to any and all suggestions

So is no one going to actually respond to what the thread was for? It wasn't a debate for her first name. And you do realize probably every name on the earth has been used by a porn star? Had to Google just now to see one of the Kardashians named their kid this as well. Not that I should have to explain but my last name ends in i which is why we changed the y to an i. To each their own but I hope you people aren't this awful to people in real life.

OP, don't confuse 'awful' and 'honest. You asked for opinions. You got opinions.

Nethuns is >>> that way

Op, op, op. Do not be ruled by your hormones when choosing baby names. This is dangerous territory.......my own poor dd very narrowly escaped being called Heaven Leigh (( placing blame on a family member who gave me a stack of Virginia Andrews t o get me through bedrest )) a name is a gift for life not just for childhood 😬

I had a mad moment when I was pregnant and was considering naming my DS after a book character, I was swiftly snapped back to reality and literally asked myself wtf was I thinking!?
You really do need to consider the child’s future and how the name would suit them as an adult, we chose an uncommon name for him in the end (it’s celtic) but it’s not odd but we’ve only met 3 others with the same name as him.
My eldest has a named that can be shortened in several different ways, we loved that it’s name that she can change to suit her and again it’s a classic name that reflects our mixed heritage.

TiddleyWink · 02/12/2022 08:54

Some people are too blunt and rude and of course it’s not nice to read but does the reaction to the name Stormi not give you pause for thought, at all?

Knowing how many people think it’s trashy and chavvy, a made up pornstar name and just generally awful, doesn’t that put you off at all, knowing your daughter will be subjected to those views her whole life? People will make immediate judgements about the kind of person she is and her background, which will disadvantage her. That’s a fact. You can say all you like that you don’t care about the opinions of people like that which is fine for you but you’re not the one who will be affected by them, your daughter will. Every time her CV is sifted, every time she introduces herself, every time her name appears ANYWHERE!

OF COURSE family and friends tell you it’s lovely, they love you and are being nice. The odds are that a lot of them think it’s awful. People on here can be honest in a way your family can’t.

Your child will go out into the world at an immediate disadvantage, I just don’t understand why any parent would choose that for their child ☹️

TheGander · 02/12/2022 08:54

Calling her that will be a handicap. It’s possibly on your radar due to porn star Stormy Daniels ( not her real name), possibly the Kardashians, it will tie her to a particular era and will carry an aura of low brow reality TV shows.
There have been plenty of studies into kids’ names and educational achievement, those with the most “ out there “ names consistently achieve less. Not fair maybe, but is that what you want for your daughter?

yikesanotherbooboo · 02/12/2022 08:55

I'm sorry that people don't like your name choice OP.
Storm would bring different reactions I think.
I think of Storm Jameson , which was a family name in her family and I have known a couple of Storm girl children in my life.
I didn't know about the Kardashian connection to Stormi but clearly many do.I did, immediately think of Stormy Daniels which would be a hard connection for your daughter to carry imo.
You certainly don't have to pick Ava or Olivia if you would like something more unusual but in general children don't want to keep having to explain their names or spell them out over and over again.I know that you like the symmetry of Storm'i' but for your child's sake I would at least go for Storm'y' if you are dead set on the name.
As above pick a middle name that she will be use as her first choice if she wishes; in the way that Zowie Bowie is known as Duncan Jones.

KirstenBlest · 02/12/2022 08:55

@Alondra , the name of the child says a lot about the parents. It won't just be the parents of friends thinking the name is awful.

ShandaLear · 02/12/2022 08:21

Stormi McStormface.

Wins the thread.

FlamingJingleBells · 02/12/2022 08:56

I've said this on another name thread and I'll repeat it here as well. Please have a bit of compassion for your child when you name her. She has to go through life from cradle to grave experiencing all the prejudices and comments.

I went to a kids party last wk & there was a kid called Tyger-Lulah there. The entertainer chose her to be his assistant & she was embarrassed telling people her name. I felt so sorry for her and people were sniggering and whispering. Why put a child through that to satisfy your desire and ego to be unique.

JustAWeirdoWithNoName · 02/12/2022 08:46

For those mocking, is Stormy/Stormi really that different to Gail? My friend was named Gail because she was born on a stormy night!

I'm absolutely obsessed with PP's suggestion of Autumn Storm and also suggest adding Summer Storm into the mix. Doesn't even have to be a first/middle name - it could be a double first name like they do in the Southern US states!

No, it's really not. People are being terrible here.

Stormy is not any worse than Dale or Skye or Brooke or Misty or Dawn or Summer or Autumn or River or any of the 125000 word names that were popular in the past or are now.

A child named Stormy won't stand out between Skye, Summer, Brooke, Willow, Winter (is getting popular), Juniper or Wren (also getting popular).

I like nature names in general but it's just what we're used to that defines whether we think something is odd or not. Stormy actually sounds more name-like than Willow thinking about it but we are used to Willow so people won't pick on it as much.

I can't believe that some people here wouldn't let their child play with another kid called Stormy just because of her name. How cruel would someone have to be? Says a lot more about that person than anyone else.

TiddleyWink · 02/12/2022 08:56

Basically, if you want your daughter to have any chance of a professional career - don’t call her Stormi.

Billslills · 02/12/2022 08:56

Storm is pretty cool. ‘Stormi, with an I’ not so much. Please call her Storm and nickname her stormy if you must.

RainyReadingDay · 02/12/2022 08:56

You might want to think about how a name will sound in different professions, for when Stormi grows up. Would they be taken seriously or might they begin to feel embarrassed by their name and want to change it.

If it was me, I'd have Stormi as the middle name. So then you could choose a more conventional first name and then she can choose what to be known as.

FeelWellEnoughToTellYou · 02/12/2022 08:57

Nyte
Intervals
Norman

I'm sat at work laughing so hard! Brilliant!!

Seriously op,don't do it. I
know you are going to have a very cute baby but she won't be your baby forever. Don't do that to another human.

Berlinlover · 02/12/2022 07:30

Stormi is a porn star name. Please do not do this to your child.

Reiterate this. Please don’t let your child grow up with this name —- teased at school, hit on as a teen. And if she wants to be a barrister, doctor ? Sorry but a chav / Kardashian name will really count against her.
If you really insist on using it, make it the middle name and give your child a regular first name that will suit her in all walks of life.

Lightening would be lovely I think. Can be shortened to Lighty too 😊

Lighti with an i though

fancyacuppatea · 02/12/2022 08:57

Stormi-Clouds Brewing is an excellent name.

or Stormi-Ocean.

Stormi-Weather is so last year.

1983Louise · 02/12/2022 08:57

I can't believe you're naming your child after a Karcrashian kid, think of your child as she grows up, are you mad.

TheGander · 02/12/2022 08:58

Alondra · 02/12/2022 08:38

Alba
Laia
Nahia
Ainhoa
Amaia
Nerea

Except for Alba, the rest are traditional Basque names for women.

Those are beautiful names. Is it true that Old Testament names are also traditional in the Basque Country?

My sister has an unusual name. It’s a real name but rare. Yes she has had people say to her face ‘that’s a stupid name’ so good knows what they say begins her back. .

There's unusual and "unusual".

I once worked with a woman called Waverley. I thought it was lovely and asked where it was from. It's a river going through the Norfolk Broads - her parents loved the area.

To me that is an unusual but "normal" (for want of a better word) I really liked it, but she said that she had no end of bullying at school because of it. She'd often wanted to change it as a child, but didn't when she grew up firstly because she knew it would upset them, and secondly because she got used to it.

I defy anyone to get used to something like "Stormi".

fancyacuppatea · 02/12/2022 08:59

Stormi-Saviour?

Stormi-Myparenthateme?

KirstenBlest · 02/12/2022 08:59

@JustAWeirdoWithNoName , Gail is a real name and means Joy, it's not from a different spelling of a weather description

BoffinMum · 02/12/2022 08:59

It's a name of dubious quality IMVHO, unless you are a pop star, in which case it will be expected and then your child will change their name upon reaching adulthood.

RandomMusings7 · 02/12/2022 08:59

Why would you give your precious innocent daughter a misspelled stripper name?

PeekAtYou · 02/12/2022 09:00

Hope your surname isn't Webster
