Having a hard time choosing. I like Autumn and DH likes Rose. But not keen on either as it sounds like a description rather than a name. Open to any and all suggestions

I've name changed for this because I feel bad about my thoughts about a baby/ child.

I will fully admit that I'm a name snob, but made-up awful names really make my teeth itch.
If someone introduced their baby Stormi to me, I'd do a double take and make a mental note to avoid them (the parent) - I'd have to wonder WTAF?????
If my child came home with a friend called Stormi I would not be encouraging the friendship to be honest. I couldn't call a child by that name, so wouldn't address them by name at all. Same as an adult by the way, I wouldn't address them by such a ridiculous name.
I know you're getting a lot of flack, and I'm sorry to add to it, but I have to be honest as I think it's probably the worst name I've seen on here.
Your friends and family who have said they love the name are either lying, or it's normal in your circles & therefore it's one I'd avoid.

Hi Katie Hopkins

Op, op, op. Do not be ruled by your hormones when choosing baby names. This is dangerous territory.......my own poor dd very narrowly escaped being called Heaven Leigh (( placing blame on a family member who gave me a stack of Virginia Andrews t o get me through bedrest )) a name is a gift for life not just for childhood 😬

custardbear · 02/12/2022 08:42

One of our cats is called Stormy ... we call him Stormageddon, Stormy boo boo, or Stormy Bear
You're welcome ☺️

Stormi is SO associated with Kylie Jenner it would be like calling your child North or Blue Ivy or Apple. I just don’t think it’s for us mere mortals, you’d look like such a wannabe. Just saying what many people will think once they are introduced to your new perfect baby Stormi 😬 harsh maybe, but this is the time to be told.

If you must, Stormi Rose.

For what it's worth, I think that the celebs are utter self absorbed dingbats for naming their kids like this too.

Stormi Weather?

😂😂😂

Tinseltosser · 02/12/2022 08:42

I’m what is usually classed as a ‘chav’, and that name is god awful.

Like, so fucking awful I can’t believe anyone but an incredibly rich person who could somehow insulate their child against the bullying/piss taking/not needing to bother finding a normal job could even consider it.

Don’t think it’s snobbery to point out it’s not even a name, and life is hard enough as it is through the school years without parents deliberately adding to it by giving you a name that ‘stands out’.

Not sure what the obsession is with ‘unique’ names, they are your child, not a bloody art project. When they are an adult, if their career/personality suits, they could always change it to a more outlandish name by deed poll.

My child has never had a bad word said to her - her name is universally loved by those that know her they are probably just being polite. No-one needs to be polite on here - you will get an honest reaction (from teachers and employers and people you won't want your child to make a bad impression on before she's even opened her mouth). Stormi is fine as a nickname, but give the girl a real name to put on her job application.

My sister has an unusual name. It’s a real name but rare. Yes she has had people say to her face ‘that’s a stupid name’ so good knows what they say begins her back. .

😂😂😂😂😂

halfsiesonapotnoodle · 02/12/2022 08:44

Rose is every second girl's middle name. I'd choose a classic name like Rosalind as Stormi is so bad. Sorry OP.

Redburnett · 02/12/2022 08:28

Imagine an adult professional introducing themselves as Stormi ....... fine for a child but not really suitable for an adult.

Exactly this. OP jump ahead 20 years and your DD is trying to get her first proper job. It may not be right but people make snap judgements about CV’s and if two come in, one with name Stormi and one with Jane I can take a guess which one will be read fully and progressed

Your friends and family may be nice about it but wider society will have the same reaction as this thread. Rightly or wrongly. Do you really want your DD having a life where she is having to prove herself because people have an instant opinion of her?

You may like a name but this is your DDs life you are impacting

asblackasyoursoul · 02/12/2022 08:45

Lightening would be lovely I think. Can be shortened to Lighty too 😊

JustAWeirdoWithNoName · 02/12/2022 08:46

For those mocking, is Stormy/Stormi really that different to Gail? My friend was named Gail because she was born on a stormy night!

I'm absolutely obsessed with PP's suggestion of Autumn Storm and also suggest adding Summer Storm into the mix. Doesn't even have to be a first/middle name - it could be a double first name like they do in the Southern US states!

SkylightSkylight · 02/12/2022 08:46

Nishky32 · 02/12/2022 07:16

I think autumn is an issue as it does sound like the weather- I think Rose works, Stormi is a lovely name

I don't get this?

How is Stormi - the description of weather a name, let alone a lovely name?

@astyr why not Wednesday as per yesterdays thread?

Failing that a tree, a planet, a country/city or you could push the boat out & use an actual Name.

if you want something 'out there' change you own name, don't inflict it on your child!

Sorry, shouldn't laugh.

InsomniacVampire · 02/12/2022 08:47

I kind of... I get you;re feeling judged and it's unpleasant but your ego should not be more important than your child's future, at this stage you seem to be doing the "I'm ringt you're wrong and nananananan I can't hear you now!" with your fingers in your ears sort of thing. People just pointed out why the name is just not that great. I just kind of feel sorry for your little girl, but she can always change it by deed poll when she grows up and will not be too affected by years of bullying.

Alondra · 02/12/2022 08:47

If my child was rejected by an adult because of their name, I would be the one stopping all contact. Talk about prejudice against a child and their parents because of a name. Good grief.

Lalliella · 02/12/2022 08:48

Please don’t call your child Stormi. It’s awful. People will judge you through her entire life, and rightly so.

Would you change your own name to that? If no then don’t inflict it on a kid. If yes then do it and call your kid something else.

ODFOx · 02/12/2022 08:50

I agree with a pp who said to avoid a name which is also a noun as it will make Stormi into more of an adjective.
So pick a middle name which is a name but nothing else.
What else was on your list when you picked Stormi? An idea of your tastes overall would help in the search.
Congratulations on your imminent arrival!

No need for people to be so horrible about someone elses baby name,

Better to get the comments out now, and have the parents re-think, than give the poor little soul that name and have her get them all alter.

Of course - it it's from the Kardashians (not that I would know) there's a chance there'll be six "Stormi's" in her class a lone in school, and quite a few either side of her, too, so maybe she'll just blend into the background.

Emotionalsupportviper · 02/12/2022 08:50

*later, not alter

Imagine an adult professional introducing themselves as Stormi ....... fine for a child but not really suitable for an adult.

OP I really think this is something to consider.

Storm would probably be more accepted but lots of people would, rightly or wrongly, subconsciously judge the name before they even reviewed a job application, for example.

custardbear · 02/12/2022 08:52

Cloud ... or Klawd

BackOnTheBandWagon · 02/12/2022 08:52

People are being rude, but the thing is OP, this is a realistic response to a name like Stormi that people across society will be thinking, even if they don't tell you. They will make assumptions and judge you and your daughter. Something to consider for if you really want that for her.

Would you change your name to Stormi? If not, then you really shouldn't name your child that.

Unicorn2022 · 02/12/2022 08:52

I think you are pushing it if you tell people you didn't know it was related to the Kardashians OP - it's literally the only thing that comes up in a Google search of the name.
