Middle name for Stormi?

Having a hard time choosing. I like Autumn and DH likes Rose. But not keen on either as it sounds like a description rather than a name. Open to any and all suggestions

Portia/Porsche

AllOfThemWitches · 02/12/2022 09:00

I've read your 'everyone is being horrid' comments and I still think it's a bloody awful name, especially with the 'i' and she will 100% hear Kardashian references throughout her life. That's not a good thing.

DogInATent · 02/12/2022 09:00

@astyr - Stormi doesn't lend itself to any middle name because it will always sound like an adjective. It will also have issues with any surname that sounds like a noun. It will work as a middle name with a much wider range of first names. But it's not unusual for someone to be known by their middle name. I think your best option with Stormi is to have it as the middle name on legal documents, but also use it as their day-to-day name if that's your wish.

Gloschick · 02/12/2022 09:01

Sorry you are being given a hard time OP. Stormi is cute, but there will be people who will judge, so you will need to grow a thick skin if you want to use it.
Out of your choices I think Stormi Rose works well, not keen on Autumn.

Stormi night, Stormi Sea is also a nice idea I see someone already suggested it.

Guiltycat · 02/12/2022 09:05

Misty?

It’s not fantastic but still miles better than ‘Stormi’.

VisitingThem · 02/12/2022 09:05

If Stormi is short for Stormageddon, you could shorten it to Meghan instead?

LadyOfTheCanyon · 02/12/2022 09:05

I judge names. I try really hard not to, but time and time again certain traits are borne out by particular types of names.

Like it or not, names are tied to our class system. It's not right, it's not fair, but it's how it is.

I'm not advocating for all children to be called Kate and Charlotte at all, but there's a middle ground of names that work across all classes to a degree and don't harm the child's chances as it grows up by being pigeonholed as 'naughty' or "chavvy".

Stormi ( please go for Stormy if you must) is the sort of name someone changes their name TO because they need a stage name. Let that be the kids choice when they're older. I'd give it as a middle name and go with something less contentious as a first.
^
And yes, your family are being kind. I have a friend with a ridiculously 'over named' child ( in her case she went too many rings UP the class ladder) and we still eye roll about it to this day.^

SpinningFloppa · 02/12/2022 09:05

I heard a stormi being called in a shop the other day, I was a bit surprised! Must have been about 2, op definitely lying about not knowing it was associated with the Kardashian’s

Boooooot · 02/12/2022 09:05

Mumsnetters are just vile on baby names threads OP it’s a lovely name. No one in real life will think anything of it.

If you wanted a weather/nature theme then Stormi River is nice.

ErrolTheDragon · 02/12/2022 09:06

As above pick a middle name that she will be use as her first choice if she wishes; in the way that Zowie Bowie is known as Duncan Jones.

His name actually is Duncan Zowie Haywood Jones, it's more that he was known as 'Zowie Bowie' for a while. And then as a teen he called himself Joey or Joe.

Misty?

Nah Misty is a dog or cat's name

LadyOfTheCanyon · 02/12/2022 09:06

Apologies for random italics!

I was thinking more Storm Porch - very retro

Fivebeanchilli · 02/12/2022 09:06

I'm afraid I agree that Stormi will be having eyes rolled for her whole life. I think Storm would be better than Stormi just because it's slightly less slebby.
But middle names that work would be:
Stormi Catherine
Stormi Eleanor
Stormi Natalia
Stormi Felicity
Stormi Louisa

Unicorn717 · 02/12/2022 09:07

Please for the love of god pick an actual name for the middle if you're going for Stormy as a first name🤦🏼‍♀️

If not I've seen Sea and weather suggested on here which fit good with the theme😅

Alondra · 02/12/2022 09:08

KirstenBlest · 02/12/2022 08:55

@Alondra , the name of the child says a lot about the parents. It won't just be the parents of friends thinking the name is awful.

A name of a child is just that, a name that may be in fashion for a time, like Kylie, Kimberly or Cheryl a decade ago.

It doesn't say anything about the parents or their child. The prejudice fall on you, not on parents, and certainly never on a child.

VisitingThem · 02/12/2022 09:08

If you are being serious OP its weird you would want to name your child something with a negative connotation like Stormi, it also looks bad on paper with the 'i' at the end, and as this thread shows doesn't really have a good middle name without making you sounding like the kind of person who sells vagina scented candles.

Stormy is way nicer than Misty, in my opinion.

Grin Mind you, I can talk, I went through 2 weeks when pg with Ds, of being determined to call him Ptolemy. Reader, I changed my mind Grin Seriously though OP, I think 'Stormi' is a hard name to carry off. Unless your child is confident, there is the potential for a lot of teasing / bullying in Primary school & a lifetime of correcting misspellings. That's what put me off Ptolemy (nickname: Tolly). I liked it but I dont' think my child would have thanked me !

I have an extremely weird middle name which embarrasses me a lot. It doesn’t often come up as it is my middle name but occasionally it does.
On my wedding day, the room fell silent and then I heard a few suppressed snorts of laughter.
Also passport checking. They usually raise an eyebrow at me. Any other times I have to provide ID.

This has been all my life and I am in my fifties. People don’t say it to your face but it follows you constantly.

FermisLeftFoot · 02/12/2022 09:10

I wouldn’t name my child something that has negative connotations myself. And I think people will take the piss or make what will become very tedious jokes - baby crying? “ohhh stormy is living up to their name heheheh”, and so on. That would get old very fast.

It might sound ‘woo’ but I believe names have power and calling a child Stormi really is asking for them to have a turbulent life or be compared to a storm for their entire life - destructive and angry.

I wouldn’t do it for that reason and i’m genuinely not trying to get at you by saying that.

DosCervezas · 02/12/2022 09:11

What about a normal name like Pauline or Sharon?
