Having a hard time choosing. I like Autumn and DH likes Rose. But not keen on either as it sounds like a description rather than a name. Open to any and all suggestions

No one in my real life gas disliked the name as a matter of fact everyone loves it. I even asked my family if they thought changing the last letter to match my name was off putting and they said not at all.

That's because people are generally polite to people's faces but feel more conformable being mean anonymously or behind your back.

However, if you pick a name like Stormi I'm afraid you are are going to be judged and people will roll their eyes. It depends whether you can put up with that and if you feel it's fair to put your child in that situation.

PatriciaPattersonGimlin · 02/12/2022 09:49

I would also be concerned that she might marry and change her name to her husband's. Stormi Day, Stormi Knight, Stormi Weekes, Stormi May, Stormi March.

My SS and his wife have picked an insane name for their kid. We have fallen out with them because we cautioned against it. Everyone else in the family think it's an insane name but have kept their trap shut. We were at least honest.

@Alondra You have clearly not experienced the staff room eye rolls.

Maybe you are a nun.

LittleCrackers · 02/12/2022 09:51

As per a PP, Wevva is perfect.

KirstenBlest · 02/12/2022 09:51

I don't think this is a serious OP.

It won't come to that. Either she'll have changed her name by deed poll by that point or gone for the nuclear option and will be serving a life sentence for burying her parents below the patio.

Personally, I would choose violence.

Better to get the comments out now, and have the parents re-think, than give the poor little soul that name and have her get them all alter.

Of course - it it's from the Kardashians (not that I would know) there's a chance there'll be six "Stormi's" in her class a lone in school, and quite a few either side of her, too, so maybe she'll just blend into the background.

Noone will give a shit later. Kids have all sorts of names now. It is npwhere near as big a deal as it would have been 30 years ago.

She lost me at pretending not to know this was Kylie's wean's name.

FermisLeftFoot · 02/12/2022 09:55

For me thought it isn’t about snobbery but about associations. Like if you were to call a baby Donald - well the immediate association is Duck or Trump. I’m sure there are loads of lovely Donald’s out there but the name conjures certain associations.

It’s like the name Chardonnay - I don’t think it’s ‘chavvy’ or whatever, but I do think of wine and then think well you wouldn’t name your child Merlot or something.

Mulhollandmagoo · 02/12/2022 09:55

Stormi Autumn sounds like we are talking about the weather. Stormi Rose is nice though.

notdaddycool · 02/12/2022 09:56

Stormi I hate my child Smith?

KirstenBlest · 02/12/2022 09:56

@FermisLeftFoot , people call their child Margaux

There are probably many Jack Daniels out there

Crayfishforyou · 02/12/2022 09:57

Stormi is a stripper name

gonutkin · 02/12/2022 09:57

I wouldn't name my child Stormi but I don't think there's anything wrong with it OP. It's cute. And for anyone that doesn't like it, I really don't like traditional names.. but wouldn't it be boring if everyone was named the same. Nor would I judge anyone for using a name I didn't particularly like. I don't think your child will be bullied for their name, and if they are then that's a reflection on their own parents and not your child.

I know more about teachers than you do. And I'm not a nun, and you are not a teacher.

DarkShade · 02/12/2022 09:58

I do think that these names will become normal by the time she's older. The 'i' is the grating part to me. Why not call her Storm and nickname Stormi? That way you can have whatever middle name you like, since it won't be an adjective.

MadameMackenzie · 02/12/2022 09:58

OP my surname has a none-usual spelling and my first name is spelt two different ways so I spend my entire life spelling out my names and I HATE it. If you insist on naming your child after weather, PLEASE don’t give him the job of forever having to adjust people’s spellings of it! Please spell it correctly

Unless your SS asked what you thought then I would have fallen out with you too. Why do people these days think that their opinion counts when it's not even asked for..

CountessOfNetflix · 02/12/2022 10:00

No judgement of the name. But your friends and family are lying to you if they don’t think Kardashian/Daniels when they hear this name. Or they live under a rock.

Hi Katie Hopkins

I’d agree but since when has Katie Hopkins ever felt or admitted feeling bad about her thoughts.
One thing about KH she owns what she says and offers no apologies

B1993 · 02/12/2022 10:00

Alondra · 02/12/2022 09:46

B1993 is a teacher like I'm a nun. Teachers have enough problems dealing with luck of funding, classroom sizes, bullying, family issues, poverty etc etc to be rolling their eyes at the name of a student when diversity means they spend a fair amount of time trying to pronounce the name of their student, let alone rolling their eyes or making statements like their name will be a life sentence for them.

Some posts are beyond ridiculous.

Yes, all of those things are discussed, too, but a teacher is a person as well. It’s easy to forget that when you’re not part of that community but it does mean we have opinions about things. 🤷🏻‍♀️

All of you innocent people that have never spoke about another person’s name or outfit or behaviour to a colleague can climb onto your pedestal, but I doubt that includes you, the ‘nun’. Which, by the way, you’ve written a very targeted attack on me both personally and professionally (which, since you have no actual evidence off is just unfounded) so I wouldn’t call you impervious to judgement and opinion either. Does that make you terrible at your job, life choices and just an all round terrible person, I guess it takes one to know one?

As I said previously, it’s not a criticism on the child, but if a parent names their child something ‘unique’ just for the sake of it, they are tied to that for the rest of their life. Dealing with people asking how to spell it, correcting spellings and pronunciations and dealing with the judgments of the name itself. So yes, it IS a life sentence.

Butchyrestingface · 02/12/2022 10:00

Storm as a middle name, Thunder as a first name.

Has anyone ever considered Drought as a name?
