What do you think of this name for a baby girl?
Names also on my list are Milencia and Astoria.

They're all quite unique names and all end in an "ia" sound which I love. If anyone has any similar suggestions please let me know.

I like a cia end too, but Terrencia is awful, like the old Scots thing of adding ina onto any old male name to make it female - Malcomina, Hughina, awful.

Milencia sounds like an Italian football team and is almost as bad. Astoria is used a lot for cheap hotels and nightclubs and all sorts of random businesses so no.

The thing is OP, your daughter has to live with this as a girl and as a woman, you can’t just amuse yourself like you do when you name a cat.

Constancia
Alicia
Marcia
Carlicia
Lucia (their are 3 different ways of saying his but the pronunciation you want shouldn’t be too hard to insist on)
Anastasia
Felicia
Artemisia
Gracia

These are all fine, have a Google, there will be more.

some of the ia or thea type ends might also work for you:

Sanchia
Cassia
Anthea
Rosaria
etc

Or Clincia (female equivalent of Clint).

Are you pronouncing that Clintzia or the more popular Clencher?

Terriblethirtytwos · 07/08/2022 18:57

”The underclass”? Wow.

OP, all the names you are suggesting are try hideous. I think you can still achieve the feel you want if you dial it down a little. Please, at the very least, cross Colincia off your list.

I'm not controlling the babys name BTW, not sure where people got that impression from? My boyfriend and I have tried to come to an agreement on a name for a long time, but as we have such different tastes couldn't decide on anything. Due to this we BOTH came to an agreement that I would choose the name myself.

oo oo Primarcia!

DamnAKarmaDingDong · 07/08/2022 19:05

All made-up names are only ever a breath away from being an Apprentice team name.

Puissance
Alacrita
Succeedia

Rollingdownland · 07/08/2022 19:06

Tarantula has a similar vibe

wingingit33 · 07/08/2022 19:07

I've needed this today Grin

Krakinou · 07/08/2022 18:50

@StillHappy ah, “the underclass”. I’m getting a strong impression that you were the schoolyard bully you’re worrying about.

No, I'm someone who works to get people from non-standard backgounds into investment banking, and who despairs at the harm done to some children's prospects by a selfish mother (and it's always the mother) who decided on a ludicrous name.

Now why don't you pop back to the other thread and try to continue teaching a native Frenchwoman what French words mean?

Belephant · 07/08/2022 19:19

@SpringAspen if you like Cordelia, I think the most obvious nickname is Delia (which I think is gorgeous!). Or I guess you could go for Cora too?

Terancia sounds like a monster from stranger things.
Astoria sounds like a hotel.
Milencia sounds like an ancient insect that will be in the next Jurassic park.

Please, please don't

This is exactly what I was going to say.

Astoria = a very famous hotel. You can’t call your child that.

Terencia and Melencia sound like an illness, sorry OP I want to be positive but I really don’t think your child would thank you.

Keep reading name dictionaries something better will take your fancy.

willowglass · 07/08/2022 19:21

All of them awful and try hard.

VeryQuaintIrene · 07/08/2022 19:24

Another thread suggested Rosacea, which is a very pretty name IMO.

LuluBlakey1 · 07/08/2022 19:29

All 3 are awful- laughably awful.

LuluBlakey1 · 07/08/2022 19:30

What about Odeonia or Millepedia or Wikipedia?

Krakinou · 07/08/2022 19:36

@StillHappy talking of unsuitable names, is your username ironic? You’re clearly dealing with a lot of anger.

SpringAspen · 07/08/2022 19:44

@StillHappy I'd like to know what exactly is "underclass" about any of the names?

Milencia remains my favourite and I'll probably just go with that. Again, thanks everyone for your feedback.

No, no, no. As a person who is terrified of spiders, I have actually struggled to even read this post. I only opened it because it was under baby names.

Do not do it!! Just no.

Some people on this thread are taking this incredibly personally. I never see this kind of outrage when people suggest the name Ffion, and that means arsehole in French.

Ffion is a Welsh girls name and not at all unusual here in wales. Less commonly it's a male name derived from Irish and Scottish Gaelic, a modern form of the Old Irish name Finn.

Dreikanter · 07/08/2022 19:58

No, I'm someone who works to get people from non-standard backgounds into investment banking, and who despairs at the harm done to some children's prospects by a selfish mother (and it's always the mother) who decided on a ludicrous name

Prejudice against names that don’t fit the perceived norm speaks way more about the employers than it does about the applicants (or their parents).

ThingInTheAttic · 07/08/2022 20:00

I think Gaia is lovely, someone suggested that earlier. Gaia was the Earth Goddess in Greek mythology and the only Gaia I've heard of IRL is Emma Thompson's daughter.
Can't say I like any of OP's original suggestions at all, sorry OP

Figgygal · 07/08/2022 20:05

Alicia seems too obvious at this point

Rapidtango · 07/08/2022 20:06

Kezia
Kerenza

Same with Emilia, which I think is very pretty.

Yes, it does. But although I can’t influence the recruitment at a hundred thousand professional firms I can still hope a selfish woman decides against damaging her poor child’s prospects.
