What do you think of this name for a baby girl?
Names also on my list are Milencia and Astoria.

They're all quite unique names and all end in an "ia" sound which I love. If anyone has any similar suggestions please let me know.

Astoria is a hotel
Milencia sounds like a baby cereal or follow on milk
I did a quick google and didn't find anything about Terancia having a greek or ancient greek origin. Myself I think it sounds like one of the brand names you see in Lidl.

@StillHappy I have already acknowledged that people don't like Terancia/Terencia...

Colincia was a piss take.

If you're not on the wind up OP, go with Celestia or Azaria.

@Johnnysgirl Except Caledonia is an already established Latin/Roman name...

For a country. Would you name your child "England?" Or Englandia?

SpringAspen · 07/08/2022 13:14

@QueenofDestruction Ahhh, Olencia is lovely! Thank you so much!

@User2145738790 Whether it was a piss-take or not, I like the sound of the name so I've added it to my list. Thanks though.

@User2145738790 Maybe you should do a quick google search, it's a Latin/Roman girls name.

It’s the name of a country.

God, this is painful.

But not that you thought it was Ancient Greek?

Look, you are being ridiculous here. Don’t punish your child for your issues.

Rapidtango · 07/08/2022 13:21

Really think this is a piss take now.
Hail Caledonia!
Azaria has negative connotations in Australia because of Azaria Chamberlain.
Colincia 😆

No.

Look, your child is unlikely to be getting a very good start in life, please don’t make it worse.

Is your husband on board with these ridiculous ideas?

olivida · 07/08/2022 13:26

"To me, not having heard it before, it sounds somewhere between Terrence and Tarantula. So it doesn’t have an appealing first impression, but I’m sure I’d get used to it."

I thought this too (except for the part about getting used to it. I don't think I'd get used to it.)

@StillHappy If you google "Caledonia name" it will tell you.

@Rapidtango We don't live in Australia and I have never heard of Azaria Chamberlain so that wont be an issue.

Originally Roman name for Scotland. & it wouldn't have been impossible therefore for a Roman general who'd campaigned there to take the name Caledonius as an honorific, & pass the female version on to his dds, actually.

It means 'hard & rocky', but then a lot of mellifluous Latin names mean something odd, to be fair.

olivida · 07/08/2022 13:30

Colincia 😂😂😂😂😂😂

How about:
Garycia
Keithcia
Haroldcia
Clivecia
Iancia
Gregocia
Grahamcia

?

Same as Frogmella, Unemployableia, and Wishmymotherknewmydadsnameia.

Come on, what is her dad’s thinking on this?

Dreikanter · 07/08/2022 13:33

LinkedIn lists 6 people called Terancia, and (surprisingly) 2 named Milencia so neither name is unique.

I’d suggest (on the Greek and Roman goddess theme):

Thalia
Antheia
Gaia
Hestia
Maia
Victoria
Concordia
Angitia
Clementia
Justitia
Murcia
Naenia

(There’s also Urania, Eileithyia, Harmonia, Polyhymnia, Bia, Invidia, Abundantia, Nortia, Salacia, Providential, Mellonia, Feronia, Discordia, Disciplina, Trivia, Venilia and, if you really want to be “out there”, Mania).

Dreikanter · 07/08/2022 13:37

Terentia was the wife of Cicero.

Because the alternative is some poor gobshite wandering the world introducing themselves as Caledonia?

I don't know why people are mocking Caledonia. There are frequent posts on here from people wanting to name their children Alba and Indy; I predict Caledonia's ranking is going to go waaaaaaay up within the next two years.

Plus it has international appeal. To quote Louis Jordan and His Tympany Five:

Caledonia! Caledonia!
What make your big head so damn hard?
I love you, I love you just the same
I'm crazy bout that woman 'cause Caledonia is her name....

StillHappy · 07/08/2022 13:46

Dreikanter · 07/08/2022 13:37

Terentia was the wife of Cicero.

But Terencia wasn’t, which is the name the OP is considering.

OP, what’s wrong with Gary? Few to none of those registered in registered in recent years.

SpringAspen · 07/08/2022 13:50

@StillHappy Terancia/Terencia was just an alternative spelling I came up with for Terentia. I get you don't like the name and I've said I wont be using it.

@Dreikanter Some great names in there! Thank you!

Why the unwillingness to say what your husband thinks about your suggested names?
