Our first baby (IVF after TTC for 15 years!) is due in 4 months.
If it’s a boy, we’d like to honour our fathers in naming our baby boy.

My DF is Michael and FIL is Raymond (goes by Ray). However, we aren’t as keen on giving them their full names.

We thought about the below names but my sister said they were too ‘out there’ and wondered if you MN babes think the same!

Micah Ray or Raymi (usual spelling Rémi)

TIA

Micha Ray

Raymi .... just no.

Twizbe · 21/05/2022 19:44

Micah even

FieldOverFence · 21/05/2022 19:45

Why not just use Rémi?

ScarlettDarling · 21/05/2022 19:46

Not at all keen, sorry.

ScarlettDarling · 21/05/2022 19:46

But huge congrats!

Plump82 · 21/05/2022 19:47

I love Raymi but think people would probably pronounce it the way its spelt rather than Remi?

TheWayTheLightFalls · 21/05/2022 19:47

Micah Ray - fine.

…or Raymi - nooooo, awful.

you’re basically telling both dads that you actually don’t like their names much!

keziah81 · 21/05/2022 19:47

I think Micah Ray is lovely. Raymi looks a bit weird and made up, I don't think this would be nice for the child in the future (Remi is a nice name though)

SunshinePie · 21/05/2022 19:47

Screams chav to me 🤷‍♀️

Sleepingsatellite1 · 21/05/2022 19:48

What about Raye

HereComesBaby2 · 21/05/2022 19:48

Appreciate the sentiment but they're both awful, sorry! Pick one or the other or neither, both mashups sound tacky 😳

Aboutdamntime · 21/05/2022 19:48

No like sorry, stick to Michael Raymond or perhaps use them as middle names?

LondonQueen · 21/05/2022 19:49

Micah Ray is nice, Raymi is a little odd.

ViaRia · 21/05/2022 19:50

Micah Ray sounds ok. It is a little bit “out there” for me personally but that’s not really relevant to you. It’s a nice tribute to both grandads, it flows nicely and is not too long.

I don’t like Raymi and I don’t think it really makes much sense as a tribute.

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 21/05/2022 19:50

Atrocious
sorry
go for Michael Ray if you want to use their names. Otherwise don't bother.

ElenaSt · 21/05/2022 19:51

Either use their full names or don't as it seems rude to want to honour them but not actually uses the real names.

Why not have Michael Raymond as two middle names and choose your own first name?

I agree with the above that abbreviations all sound very chav/naff.

nope, not a fan. I dont think either dad will thank you. why not use their real names as middle names if you don't want them as a first name?

Skelligsfeathers · 21/05/2022 19:52

No absolutely not.
Call your baby his own name and then if you have to use your father's names as middle names but please don't mash them up. Truly awful.

JemimaTiggywinkle · 21/05/2022 19:53

I really don’t like either of them.
I would personally pick a completely different name and just give Michael and Raymond/Ray as middle names.

I don’t understand “honouring” someone by using their name. By not using their name.

Tryagain2020 · 21/05/2022 19:54

I think Micah Ray is nice. I don't think it's out there but might wonder if you are Christian.

I don't like Raymi. It sounds very nicknamey to me.

Purringcat3 · 21/05/2022 19:54

I like Raymi tbh 💁‍♀️

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 21/05/2022 19:56

I know someone who called her daughter Raya after her df

Andromachehadabadday · 21/05/2022 19:56

Michael Ray is far better.

Raymi, I am sorry, but is awful and people will not pronounce it Remi.

CheshireCats · 21/05/2022 19:57

Raymi- dreadful.
What is the point if you are not using their actual names anyway?
Maybe us their actual names as middle names and give your son his own name.
