Our first baby (IVF after TTC for 15 years!) is due in 4 months.
If it’s a boy, we’d like to honour our fathers in naming our baby boy.

My DF is Michael and FIL is Raymond (goes by Ray). However, we aren’t as keen on giving them their full names.

We thought about the below names but my sister said they were too ‘out there’ and wondered if you MN babes think the same!

Micah Ray or Raymi (usual spelling Rémi)

TIA

Micah , is ok if you like that sort of thing but it’s not Michael so it’s not ‘honouring’ anyone . The other concoction is just a big no . Use them as middle names and find a name you love .

I am not a fan of ‘honouring’ relatives by imposing their names on our children. Our children deserve their own names. They are not sacrifices to be offered up in ‘honour’. Honour the relationship by creating lots of closeness and family times with their grandparents.

Let your DH change his name to Raymi in honour of his Dad and ILs, and see how he likes it!

Choose a name that you live for its own sake and that you imagine your child growing into.

Me neither.

I’m happy with middle names but forenames should be for the baby. Not a relative. I’m so glad I said no to naming our daughter after MIL.

She was lovely and DH was very close to her but it wouldn’t have been fair on DD.

Rekorderlig88 · 21/05/2022 20:48

I would use both as middle names.
Chose something for your baby that is his name. Not a mash up of family members

CafeNervosa · 21/05/2022 20:49

I like Ray. I think it sounds old to us because it belongs to older generations but if you think of it as just the sound and imagine it in a world of boys all called Arlo, Sullivan, Harrison, Ezra… I think it would be really cool. And not at all common.

Michael is also really not fashionable and rare at the moment. And I think Mickey is cool. So if you’re after non-typical names amongst their peers I think you have two really good ones to use right there.

catandcoffee · 21/05/2022 20:50

congratulations to you but it's a no from me.

ArmyBoat · 21/05/2022 20:52

Congratulations, you must be so excited!
If I were you, I would use the full names, Michael Raymond or vice versa, and then use whatever nickname you like. He would then have options as he gets older. I think it's a risk making up names!

IrisVersicolor · 21/05/2022 21:00

Michael Raymond is a lot nicer and more classic.

SmiledWtherisingsun · 21/05/2022 21:00

Why not just give the baby Michael Ray as middle names?

Mumofgirls2017 · 21/05/2022 21:02

I love it

Mumofgirls2017 · 21/05/2022 21:02

As in Micah Ray

heavyistheheed · 21/05/2022 21:04

Raymi is perhaps one of the worst name suggestions I've ever seen on this board. And I've seen a few 😅

mommaof1 · 21/05/2022 21:05

Mickie Ray then the last name, that'll be cute if the last name goes with it

AnxiousSquirrel · 21/05/2022 21:06

I like both of them, out of the two I'd probably choose Raymi

JenniferBarkley · 21/05/2022 21:08

Well I've had a long old slog of a day, and your OP has really cheered me up, congratulations!

I like Micah well enough, but if you want a tribute I agree with the others - use Michael Raymond as middle names and choose a first name you love in its own right.

mommaof1 · 21/05/2022 21:08

Just think about which one sounds more natural when your gonna be shouting him down for his tea in the future lol

Snoken · 21/05/2022 21:10

Maybe just Rami? People will just think you have named him after Rami Malek, but he's a great actor so it shouldn't be a problem.

I don’t often agree with mn names. But micha ray is lovely

Lovemyheathershimmer · 21/05/2022 21:14

Sorry about spelling. Had a few wines lol 😂

MinkieCloth · 21/05/2022 21:15

They're both terrible. They also sound very American which typically brings a negative connotation with it

Rewis · 21/05/2022 21:17

I'm not gonna comment if I like them or not. Cause names are so subjective. But if the question is if the names are too out there. Then I'd say no. They are not too out there. Not the most common names but not exactly "weird" either.

AnAfternoonWalk · 21/05/2022 21:17

Michael Raymond and then a shortened version or nickname used by you his parents and his friends/school will naturally form when you bring him home from hospital, when he’s a toddler etc

Bentley123 · 21/05/2022 21:18

Don’t like either- but think Michael Raymond is a lovely name 😊

AnAfternoonWalk · 21/05/2022 21:19

When we named our son, my husband thought we’d refer to him w a certain nickname. Well, we never used it because it didn’t fit him. He actually has several nicknames but not that one. When he’s born, a shortened version that feels perfect will come naturally.

AuntMargo · 21/05/2022 21:20

tacky sorry
