Our first baby (IVF after TTC for 15 years!) is due in 4 months.
If it’s a boy, we’d like to honour our fathers in naming our baby boy.

My DF is Michael and FIL is Raymond (goes by Ray). However, we aren’t as keen on giving them their full names.

We thought about the below names but my sister said they were too ‘out there’ and wondered if you MN babes think the same!

Micah Ray or Raymi (usual spelling Rémi)

TIA

Congratulations!!! Very Exciting!!!!

It's a shame you don't want to use traditional names as Michael is so versatile. Not so keen on Raymond or Ray, but Michael Raymond is ok

How about a name you love with Michael
Raymond as muddle names or if he'll have FIL's surname, just your Dads name as a middle name?

but you need to choose something YOU love! God knows you've waited long enough for him!!

best wishes for his safe arrival xx

IcakethereforeIam · 21/05/2022 21:23

Raymi sounds like something you'd pay a professional to do!

MissPeregrinesHome · 21/05/2022 21:24

I like the original Remi spelling and I like the idea of a "mash up" and it still sounds like a mix of the 2 names. I don't think it sounds too out there and it's a nice reasoning behind the name.

Congratulations

IcakethereforeIam · 21/05/2022 21:24

Congratulations BTW. Micah is a nice name with Ray or Raymond as a middle name.

Kassalah · 21/05/2022 21:24

Congrats! Give him a name of his own and enjoy choosing it.

GreenClock · 21/05/2022 21:25

Congratulations!
Michael Raymond as middle names gets my vote too.

pilates · 21/05/2022 21:26

A very big congratulations 🎉 but it’s a no from me.
Michael Raymond is ok.

Mamapep · 21/05/2022 21:27

Ray is an underrated lovely name.

Ray Michael is great.

BreatheAndFocus · 21/05/2022 21:28

If you’re going to honour the grandfathers by using their names, then use their actual names! Don’t pick names that ‘sound a bit like their name’! That’s pointless.

Traditional names are quite common as middle names. Give your child whatever first name you like, then have Michael and Ray as middle names, in whatever order works with the first name you’ve chosen.

Congratulations 😊

Pieceofpurplesky · 21/05/2022 21:30

Would it be mee-ca or my-ca? I teach one of each!

I think Mikey Ray is better

goingback · 21/05/2022 21:35

doe raymi fahsolatee- please no

17caterpillars1mouse · 21/05/2022 21:36

Raymi is awful

I love Micah Ray though. I don't think Micah is too out there. It fits in with other, slightly obscure but growing in popularity biblical names like Ezra and Jonah

I doubt many would find it out there at all

dolphinsarentcommon · 21/05/2022 21:37

OP what were Michael and Raymond's middle names?

TabithaTittlemouse · 21/05/2022 21:37

I quite like them both but I would probably go for Ray Michael.

ScootsMcHoy · 21/05/2022 21:38

I'd have the name of the father whose surname the baby isn't getting for the baby name and pick a different name altogether for a middle name.

Bournetilly · 21/05/2022 21:45

I like Micah with the middle name Ray. Raymi is awful sorry. I think the best option would be Michael Ray either both as middle names or with Michael as the first name and Ray as middle, it could be shortened to Mikey which is cute.

Mrpunchisagit · 21/05/2022 21:45

Just use the real names as middle names and then give him his own first name and congrats,,😃

ladygindiva · 21/05/2022 21:46

Micah Ray is fabulous. Raymi not good.

Mamatoobee · 21/05/2022 21:47

CockingASnook · 21/05/2022 20:14

No. Just give them a normal name. They'll have to live with it. Why do you need to 'honour' the grandfathers?

Both our fathers have been incredibly supportive through our ivf journey. Neither of us have our Mums any more and our fathers are everything to us so want to honour them in some way.
We will find another name if we have a boy and keep Michael and Ray as middle names.

If we have a girl, she will be Florence Jayne after our dearly departed mothers.

I’d give your child his own name, then give him the two names as middle names.

pictish · 21/05/2022 21:50

Not Raymi anyway. Jesus.

orangeisthenewpuce · 21/05/2022 21:52

Neither. Michael, and Ray as a middle name.

boatahoy · 21/05/2022 21:53

Huge congratulations to you on your pregnancy. Just wonderful news. I would choose whatever name you love. You can always use your DF names as middle names, still honouring them.
