Baby due tomorrow and still no name! Philippa or Charlotta?

Help! We got a scheduled cesarean for baby girl #2 tomorrow and have still not decided on the name. Big sister is called Isabella, but we never call her by the full name, always just Bella. Now we can’t make up our mind… I like Philippa but not so sure about Pippa (irrespective of what it means in other languages), I do like Lottie but not so sure about Charlotta (I don’t like Charlotte). So ideally I call her Philippa with nickname Lottie;) We do quite like the girls to have a shorter nickname which we would mainly use!

Lottie as a nn for Philippa?
Mm
Scarlet nn Lettie?

Sunnyday321 · 23/03/2022 16:11

Not keen on Charlotta . Your baby - your choice but quite like Phillipa with nn Philly ( which sounds the same a filly / extra points from horse lovers ! )

MinglingFlamingo · 23/03/2022 16:15

My dsis is called Philippa and she has never been called Lottie. Pippa, Flips, Pip yes but never Lottie.

I love her make much better than the one I was given. Not keen on Charlotta, she will be correcting people from Charlotte all the time. It's bad enough for my sister that she has to say it's 1 "L" 2 "Ps"

RealRaymondReddington · 23/03/2022 16:16

Of those i think Philippa is the nices, but I prefer Carlotta as an alternative. Charlotta is a new one to me and I don't like it as it sounds like a mix up.

alexdgr8 · 23/03/2022 16:17

well Philippa is ok, but definitely not Charlotta.
Charlotte would be ok.

Blimecory · 23/03/2022 16:19

Out of those, Philippa. Charlotta sounds very odd. Is it actually a name? I think you need either Carlotta or Charlotte? Or Caroline is actually the same name too. That works. You could shorten to Caro or Carrie.

Sirzy · 23/03/2022 16:21

Charlotta would spend a lot of time saying “Charlotte with an a”

peasandcarrrots · 23/03/2022 16:23

Definitely not Charlotta it doesn't sound like a real name.
And I've never heard of Phillips nn Lottie!!?

Jellybean23 · 23/03/2022 16:25

Not keen on Charlotta.

Thoosa · 23/03/2022 16:25

Lottie as a nickname for Philippa is quite strange and likely to cause confusion.

If you really like Lottie as a diminutive, work backwards from that. Also Lettie, as PP said.

Thoosa · 23/03/2022 16:28

How about Letitia or Lettice shortened to Lettie?

Whatsinaname4 · 23/03/2022 16:28

Is it not Carlotta you mean rather than Charlotta? That doesn’t seem like a real name.

Also is it not very same-y to have issbell-A and then Phillip-A/ Charlott-A

Lottie isn’t a nickname for Phillipa either so a bit odd to call the child Phillipa if you plan to call her Lottie. I mean would you not think it odd if someone told you oh this is Christina but her nickname is Izzy. Similar random thing to do.

HomecomingKween · 23/03/2022 16:28

Don't like Philippa/Pippa. Too prim.

Charlotta would be a good name for one of those scary porcelain dolls. On a person it would be a bit fussy. And people would always mistake it for Charlotte.

Charlotte
Carlotta
Lotta/Lotte
Ottilie

ozymandiusking · 23/03/2022 16:30

Carlotta would be better than Charlotta, which sounds made up.

HomecomingKween · 23/03/2022 16:30

I think OP was being tongue in cheek about giving her daughter the full name Phillipa and shortening of Lottie.

namechangedforthis21 · 23/03/2022 16:31

Why not just call her Lottie if you like it?

helpmum2003 · 23/03/2022 16:31

Agree that Charlotta is not good as PP have said. Philippa/Pippa is lovely.

Carlotta
Amelia (Millie)
Aurelia (Lia)
Ophelia (Philly)
Aurora (Rory)
Annabella (Anna)
Camilla (Cami or Millie)

Or just use Lottie if you don't like Charlotte?

mistermagpie · 23/03/2022 16:34

I don't think you can do Lottie from Phillipa, it doesn't really work.

Charlotta will just spend her whole life correcting people, so I think you need to go for Carlotta or just call her Lottie?

Gilly12345 · 23/03/2022 16:34

Not keen on Charlotta and Phillipa I like but calling her Lottie is bizarre.

AmberLynn1536 · 23/03/2022 16:35

@HomecomingKween

I think OP was being tongue in cheek about giving her daughter the full name Phillipa and shortening of Lottie.
I doubt it, you see it here all the time, I’ve called my baby Beatrice but nickname will be Fiona Hmm
Goldbar · 23/03/2022 16:36

What about Ottilie and Lottie for short?

HomecomingKween · 23/03/2022 16:37

So ideally I call her Philippa with nickname Lottie;)

Well she did a little winky face so I'm giving her the benefit of the doubt! Grin

duvetdayforeveryone · 23/03/2022 16:37

Sorry, but I really dislike Philippa.

SexiestDogWalker · 23/03/2022 16:37

I think Amelia/Millie is a lovely one that's been shared.

But I would go for Lottie as the actual name if I loved it. It's a name in its own right. My great great grandmother was Lottie

Lovemusic33 · 23/03/2022 16:39

Philippa but not with the nickname ‘Lottie’, surely ‘Pippa’ would be her nickname?
