Baby due tomorrow and still no name! Philippa or Charlotta?

Help! We got a scheduled cesarean for baby girl #2 tomorrow and have still not decided on the name. Big sister is called Isabella, but we never call her by the full name, always just Bella. Now we can’t make up our mind… I like Philippa but not so sure about Pippa (irrespective of what it means in other languages), I do like Lottie but not so sure about Charlotta (I don’t like Charlotte). So ideally I call her Philippa with nickname Lottie;) We do quite like the girls to have a shorter nickname which we would mainly use!

Charlotta sounds very odd and strange. Just no.

Haveyoubrushedyourteeth · 23/03/2022 16:40

I know twins called Isabella and Lucinda, shortened to Bella and Lucy, all of which I love. Very best of luck with tomorrow OP hope all goes beautifully x

WashedupTroll · 23/03/2022 16:58

Lorelei, nn Lottie

Sillybillypoopoomummy · 23/03/2022 17:01

Penelope nn Penny?

BurningBenches · 23/03/2022 17:01

How about Felicity?

Of the two philippa.

Haus1234 · 23/03/2022 17:05

There’s a Dutch / German name Lotte (pronounced Lotta not Lottie) which might work?

I agree with PPs that Carlotta sounds better than Charlotta.

BlackLambAndGreyFalcon · 23/03/2022 17:07

I actually like Charlotta - assuming that you are using the German pronunciation of Charlotte (with the stress on the second syllable), but you may get some people who assume that she's a German Charlotte on mis-spell it.

MrsEricBana · 23/03/2022 17:08

Carlotta ----> Lottie (def not Charlotta)
Philippa ----> Pip
Lucinda ---->Lucie

Itwasnotmeormydog · 23/03/2022 17:09

Dreadful names.

DogsAndGin · 23/03/2022 17:10

Philippa nn pippa

Ratatoo · 23/03/2022 17:11

Matilda and Tlily

Violet and nn Lottie?

Ratatoo · 23/03/2022 17:12

Or Scarlet nn lottie works too

Sexnotgender · 23/03/2022 17:12

@Sirzy

Charlotta would spend a lot of time saying “Charlotte with an a”
This.
Kitkat151 · 23/03/2022 17:16

Charlotta is awful ...really awful...sounds made up and chavvy
I’m not mad on Philippa...but it’s the better of the 2

EyesAsGreenAsAFreshPickledToad · 23/03/2022 17:17

Just call her Lottie. Or Ottilie NN Lottie.

Philippa and Charlotta are too clunky and ugly.

AdaColeman · 23/03/2022 17:21

Philippa is lovely, cool and classy.

I'm not keen on Charlotta, she might often have to correct the spelling.
I prefer Carlotta, so pretty, and flows much better than the clunky Charlotta.

Nicknames tend to grow organically once the child gets to school, so I'm not sure how well imposing Lottie as a nn for Philippa would actually work. In fact I don't think it would work at all!

PattyMelt · 23/03/2022 17:25

You could do Philippa and call her Phil/Pippa/Pip. I don't like Charlotta

WallaceinAnderland · 23/03/2022 17:34

Love Philippa. You could always call her Pippi as in Longstocking.

JassyRadlett · 23/03/2022 17:40

The Charlotta-is-made-up crowd don't know their LM Montgomery. Smile I'd always be taking 'the Fourth' onto it though.

Its origins are Nordic though aren't they?

I agree though that as a real-life name in the UK it would be a total ballache.

123annie · 23/03/2022 17:47

Apologies I should have been more clear! We are between:
Philippa nn Pippa, or
Charlotta nn Lottie
Charlotta is the Nordic version of Charlotte, while Carlotta is the Italian version and I personally prefer it with the “h”.
We are also both German and it is actual quite a common name there, much more than Philippa. It makes it a lot trickier that the name needs to work in English and German;) We live in London in quite an international setting so I would hope both names would work. I personally just don’t like Charlotte very much.

What about Colette? That could shorten to Lottie

WashedupTroll · 23/03/2022 17:58

That is different then. So Charlotta, a nod to your European heritage and a gorgeous nn of Lottie.

Blimecory · 23/03/2022 18:21

I’d no idea about Charlotta being Nordic/German.

suzysays · 23/03/2022 18:27

Ophelia nn FiFi

I loved this and would of used had DC3'been a girl!

123annie · 23/03/2022 19:24

I love Ophelia but sadly DH does not;(
Charlotta would be pronounced the same as Carlotta and we would call her Lottie mainly which should be easy in the UK.
