Baby due tomorrow and still no name! Philippa or Charlotta?

Help! We got a scheduled cesarean for baby girl #2 tomorrow and have still not decided on the name. Big sister is called Isabella, but we never call her by the full name, always just Bella. Now we can’t make up our mind… I like Philippa but not so sure about Pippa (irrespective of what it means in other languages), I do like Lottie but not so sure about Charlotta (I don’t like Charlotte). So ideally I call her Philippa with nickname Lottie;) We do quite like the girls to have a shorter nickname which we would mainly use!

I doubt most people in the U.K. would pronounce Charlotta and Carlotta the same so it would be another thing to be correcting. In English most would pronounce the Ch

Okeydoky · 23/03/2022 19:45

I'm in London too and honestly assumed Charlotta was a typo. She'll be forever correcting people if she wants to use her full name as an adult.

Why not just call her Lottie?

Okeydoky · 23/03/2022 19:47

She'll have to collect spelling and how it is pronounced

ISeeTheLight · 23/03/2022 19:50

If you're both German why not Lieselotte?

Not a fan of Charlotta or Philippa. Charlotte or Lotte is nice.

Evasmissingletter · 23/03/2022 19:53

Love Carlotta not Charlotta

NortieTortie · 23/03/2022 20:22

If you want to call her Lottie, just call her Lottie :-). It's very popular with children these days - there are 2 just-Lotties in my DS4's class.

If you have your heart set on a full name, I would recommend against Charlotta, since most people would assume It's pronounced like Charlotte-a.

delshell · 23/03/2022 20:33

I agree with others that Lottie as a nickname for Philippa doesn't really work. Can you find another name that can be shortened to Lottie? I've heard it can be a shortening of Elizabeth.

Personally I think Philippa shortened to Pippa is lovely.

ukborn · 23/03/2022 21:13

Why not just call her Lottie? Two of my kids are the nickname without the longer version.

RuthW · 23/03/2022 21:17

Charlotta is lovely. I remember a character in a book when I was a child with that name.

Savoretti · 23/03/2022 21:31

Isabella and Charlotta are way to samey imo

Luredbyapomegranate · 23/03/2022 22:01

If you like Lottie but don’t like Charlotte, Carlotta is fine, although spelling it Charlotta will be a massive PITA for her in the UK, so try and resist.

Lotte (Lotta) as a full name is also quite nice. Lottie is too little girly to be more than a nn.

But personally I’d go for Philippa - Philippa Charlotte is nice.

newuseronmonday · 23/03/2022 22:11

I like Phillipa/ Pippa but also like pp suggestion Penelope, I would nn Nell

Hadtocomment · 24/03/2022 10:00

Echoing the last post I was going to suggest Lotta as a full name. I don't see why she can't just be called Lottie but if you're worried about needing a more formal alternative if she wants or needs in the future then Lotta is a nice name and more formal sounding if occasions need. I am not particularly keen on Phillipa or Charlotta although both Pippa and Lottie are nice. I can think of a number of professionals called Pippa and Lottie so I don't think long formal names are particularly needed these days but Lotta is nice and gives a choice.

Good luck for today OP Thanks

Pandypuff · 24/03/2022 10:45

I can't get over the number of people who didn't realise that the 'Philippa nickname Lottie' was a joke 😂😂😂

Pandypuff · 24/03/2022 10:47

I don't like Philippa or Charlotta, although I'd choose Philippa at a push. Charlotta is too much.

DoorLion · 24/03/2022 10:54

Those saying Charlotta is not a real name are clearly not Anne of Green Gables fans - Charlotta the Fourth, anyone?

How about:
Ottilie and Ottie
Harriet and Hattie
Henrietta and Hettie
Matilda and Tillie
Emmeline and Emmy
Larissa and Lara
Elizabeth and Betsy

Fivelittlemonkeys · 24/03/2022 16:13

Good luck for your c-section tomorrow, you must be very excited!

Just so you know tomorrow is the Greek Independence day and all Evangeline's have a nameday.

What about that name? Maybe Angelina with a short Angie or Lina?

I prefer Philippa out of your two options but I don't like much either...
