Help! We got a scheduled cesarean for baby girl #2 tomorrow and have still not decided on the name. Big sister is called Isabella, but we never call her by the full name, always just Bella. Now we can’t make up our mind… I like Philippa but not so sure about Pippa (irrespective of what it means in other languages), I do like Lottie but not so sure about Charlotta (I don’t like Charlotte). So ideally I call her Philippa with nickname Lottie;) We do quite like the girls to have a shorter nickname which we would mainly use!

I would just use lottie. I think if the shortened version of a name is a proper name, and not a silly nick name then just use it as their official name.

But then Im of the camp that doesn’t understand why you’d call a baby something with the intention of calling them something else all of the time. It just seems odd to me. Here is baby zac, but on his birth certificate is Zachary - why?

Also by not naming your child the name you want to call them, it means others can change it.
Example if you name your daughter Charlotta, with the intention of calling her lottie, what happens if when she’s older people call her char for short.
Char sounds nothing like the name you intended for her it’s a completely different sound and is quite harsh compared to the soft and more frilly lottie.
I think just call her lottie if that’s what you like, then that’s what she will always be and no one can change it.

Oh how funny you called her lottie I just read further on the thread.
Congratulations and good choice!
