Which would you choose, and why?

Joan

theveryhungrycatapillar · 28/02/2022 19:41

Non for a baby all very old sounding

merrymouse · 28/02/2022 19:42

Jean.

It was my grandmother’s name, and I think it’s due a revival.

Pollyputthekettleon1975 · 28/02/2022 19:44

Jane is my favourite of the three.
Jean is OK if I can get past the sour faced one that I have the misfortune of knowing.
Joan is OK but again met a very unpleasant one (miserable old woman who never had a kind word to say about anyone).
However, I'm sure if those names made a comeback it would change that association for me and replace it with the image of a sweet little girl.

NoNameNoGane · 28/02/2022 19:56

I love Joanie

Evasmissingletter · 28/02/2022 19:57

Jean Grey X men. Cool.

tearinghairout · 28/02/2022 20:02

Jane I suppose but not keen on any of them. I also like Joanna. I can't stand Jean. Really hate it, I think because of someone I knew with that name. I find it incredibly dull.

schnubbins · 28/02/2022 20:04

Jane

Lamont77 · 28/02/2022 20:06

Jean - so cool!

erhellerr · 28/02/2022 20:06

I like Jeanne

topsytils · 28/02/2022 20:07

don't like any of them, too plain

user1493494961 · 28/02/2022 20:07

Jane.

SwissCheeseRentedChildren · 28/02/2022 20:16

Jeanie: my fearsome Scottish granny! People called her Jean.

Joan Armour-plating though, she’s cool.

Orphlids · 28/02/2022 20:40

Joan is my favourite. I love the gentle ‘oh’ sound, the the shape your mouth makes as you say it. It’s almost like a sigh. I agree with a PP that it’s glamorous. The simplicity is lovely.

Not keen on Jane as I find the ‘ay’ sound rather harsh and unpleasant.

Jean to me sounds rather frumpy.

Pizzadreams · 28/02/2022 20:41

I don’t really like any, but if I had to pick it would be Jane.

CaitlinEJ · 28/02/2022 21:05

We have a Jane (almost 9 months), so I’m biased in saying that’s my favourite. Out of the other two I prefer Jean, but then again one of my other daughters has Jean as her middle name.

Zillamop · 28/02/2022 21:08

Joan

Gardeningcreature · 28/02/2022 21:12

I like them all.
One of them is dd's middle name.
Great choice.

Orangelover · 28/02/2022 21:20

I love Jane and it will 100% be my girls middle name if I ever have a DD. It was my grandma's name and a gentler soul I've never met. She always used to say "that's me - plain Jane" but she wasn't plain at all really.

I like Jean as well, reminds me of Jean Milburn from Sex Ed, and as a Gillian Anderson fan that's no bad thing.

Not keen on Joan though, somehow that has a harsher sound to me? Not quite as a pretty.

Cherrysherbet · 28/02/2022 21:21

Jane

WhiteCatmas · 28/02/2022 21:22

Jean is a man’s name in France…
How about Siobhan?

Susu49 · 28/02/2022 21:29

@WhiteCatmas

Jean is a man’s name in France… How about Siobhan?
...but pronounced completely differently Hmm
midsomermurderess · 28/02/2022 21:30

@WhiteCatmas

Jean is a man’s name in France… How about Siobhan?
Is it?
Susu49 · 28/02/2022 21:31

@midsomermurderess it's said like if you tried to say John in a French accent (because its the French version of John)

The French version of Jean is Jeanne

Susu49 · 28/02/2022 21:32
