Which would you choose, and why?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
@midsomermurderess it's said like if you tried to say John in a French accent (because its the French version of John)

The French version of Jean is Jeanne
Oh, mate😏

RuthW · 28/02/2022 22:06

Jane

Really dislike the others.

autumnkate · 28/02/2022 22:14

Joni

 1. Jane - very classic with some amazing namesakes (literary ones in particular but also queens, scientists etc). It just happens to be underused now - but like Frances, Mary, Margaret, Anne etc (all those very classic but currently slightly unfashionable names), I can see it making a big comeback in 20 years or so, so your DD will be ahead of the crowd. Jane's a lovely, classy name imo. Big Gap-
 2. Jean - very retro, but does somehow have a slightly fun Euro feel I think. Bigger Gap-
 3. Joan - too vintage/ hipster territory for me sorry - I do think "old lady" rather than young girl (but then I never though Dorothy would come back so soon so what do I know?)
WeasilyPleased · 28/02/2022 22:24

Jean. Very classy and can be Jeannie whilst little.

drpet49 · 28/02/2022 22:43

Jane.

Luredbyapomegranate · 28/02/2022 22:59

Probably Jean, because she is feisty
But Jane is a fantastic classic

I don’t like Joan, sounds like Moan - Joanna is a much prettier and more elegant version of the name (I think in the Middle Ages Joan was pronounced Jo-Ann actually)

Also quite like Jeanne

Frances is back. Margaret showing some signs too
villainousbroodmare · 28/02/2022 23:01

Jean all the way, so zingy.
Jane is nice but a bit pastel.
Joan is quite frumpy imo.

Outhouse71421 · 28/02/2022 23:35

I'm of an age where Jane is passable and classic but dull, and the others are awful names of your mums older friends.

Fifthtimelucky · 28/02/2022 23:50

Jane. Simple and classic. I wouldn't use it as a first name myself as it's bit short and plain. However I think it's a perfect middle name.

Jean is OK. I had two auntie Jeans (born in the 1920s and 1930s) so I think of that as very dated. Like a PP I think of it as a Scottish name (even though neither of my aunts were).

Joan is the worst. Very frumpy in my view.

MushroomQueen · 01/03/2022 00:23

Jane, my middle name (Jayne) and my daughters

astorsback · 01/03/2022 00:32

I love Jane/Jayne and also Jeanette/Janet/Jenet.

DoorWasAJar · 01/03/2022 03:01

Jane reminds me of Jane Doe

Jean reminds me of jeans

Joan sounds frumpy

I’m sorry ☹️

babyjellyfish · 01/03/2022 09:45

@DramaAlpaca

Jane is the nicest Jean is the coolest Joan is a bit dreary

So I'd choose Jane.

This.
gingerhills · 01/03/2022 10:02

I don;t think of Joan as dreary. I think think of Joan as:

Jane, Jean or Joan
Lucienandjean · 01/03/2022 21:10

Jean. But then my username gives that much away.

Yika · 01/03/2022 21:18

I love the name Jane, it's so simple and classic.

delshell · 01/03/2022 21:26

Not a huge fan of any of them but I would probably choose Jane. The others both sound very Scottish to me. Which obviously isn't necessarily a problem! But as someone who has no Scottish connection I would personally probably not choose them.

Firebird83 · 01/03/2022 21:33

They’re all great! I’d probably be most likely to use Jane. I know a little Janie and also a Joni.

Crunchymum · 02/03/2022 13:26

Jean by a million miles!

sharkyandme · 02/03/2022 13:28

Jean

DogsAndGin · 02/03/2022 19:03

Jane is pretty and classic.
Joan is old and dreary.
Jean is AWFUL!

LaTangerina · 02/03/2022 19:07

Joan - I think Joanie is a nice nickname.

DisforDarkChocolate · 02/03/2022 19:12

Joan is a family name to me so I'd probably go for that one but call her Joanie.

I don't like Jean at all. Jane is very lovely.
