Peregrine? Or Falcon?

So Peregrine is an actual name, which could be cool or could be disastrous, I'm not sure. What do you think? If not Peregrine what about Falcon? Made up admittedly, but kind of powerful?

🤣

DropYourSword · 21/01/2022 00:06

How about Ibis?

Affectionately known as Bin Chicken

Ikeabag · 21/01/2022 00:10

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_pigeon

Some decent name suggestions in the "decorated" section. I'm a fan of Winkie.

TheBeardedVulture · 21/01/2022 00:13

I like Ibis! It has an ancient Egyptian doomy feel which appeals to my goth tendencies.

Crane is a good option too.

MehMahMoo · 21/01/2022 00:20

I thought Peregrine would be a girl because of the Modern Mysteries of Miss Fisher - she's Peregrine Fisher. Could shorten to Pez too... or Rine (Reenee)

Goldbar · 21/01/2022 00:39

Neither. Go for Buzzard (Buzz for short).

Kanaloa · 21/01/2022 04:03

Would you want to be called Peregrine or Falcon? I know I wouldn’t. Out of the two I’d probably choose Peregrine because at least he can tell people his name’s Perry.

And as for ‘people wouldn’t blink at a child named Arthur or Alfred’ well no, because they’re both well used names. Peregrine is very very unusual. And that’s fine if you like to stand out, but you don’t know your child will want to constantly stand out.

PhilCornwall1 · 21/01/2022 04:17

Peregrine is a bit Jacob Rees-Mogg.

Just make sure you keep away from the tit family of birds when looking for inspiration!!!

SalsaLove · 21/01/2022 04:20

For some reason I know that Julian Fellowes son is named Peregrine, and although I’m usually up for a bit of pretentiousness it really goes too far.

Undertheoldlindentree · 21/01/2022 04:25

I think all bird names are fair game.

FindmeuptheFarawaytree · 21/01/2022 04:30

@MehMahMoo I'm fairly sure Miss Fisher is Phryne not Peregrine.

Peregrine nn Perry is ok, but Falcon just sounds like a military plane to me.

lljkk · 21/01/2022 04:34

Falcon is the girl bird, Tiercel is the boy bird. Peregrine is the species. I can't get past technical meanings of the words. Falcon for a lad seems wrong, anyway.

Scirocco · 21/01/2022 04:38

Peregrine. If it's good enough to have been used for a Hobbit in LOTR, why not?

sofato5miles · 21/01/2022 05:40

I know two Peregrines. They are definitely UC though.

Underthestairsbears · 21/01/2022 05:46

Makes me think of Peregrin Took whose nickname was Pippin... (LOTR)

"Fool of a Took!"

I prefer Pip to Perry as a NN

HairsprayBabe · 21/01/2022 05:54

I wanted DS to have the middle.name falcon but DH said no, his middle name is now Elias, which I don't really love anywhere near as much as Falcon but it very rarely comes up.

mrssunshinexxx · 21/01/2022 06:04

Please don't choose either.

cherrytopcake · 21/01/2022 06:19

I honestly peregrine was a medical treatment for something pregnancy related. Or sounds like a brand of dog food. Wouldn't people end up call the child Perry ?

cherrytopcake · 21/01/2022 06:19

I honestly thought*

CakesOfVersailles · 21/01/2022 06:23

@ISeeTheLight

I used to work with a Falko. It's a German name. He was very cool. Falcon is a bit weird.

Peregrine is unusual but it is a name; would be okay with surname like Smith but Peregrine Windsor-Battencourt or some such would be a bit much.

See I feel the exact opposite. If your surname is Windsor-Battencourt and you live in a crumbling stately home Peregrine is perfect.

I feel you have to be stonkingly posh to pull off Peregrine.

chaosrabbitland · 21/01/2022 06:46

im just trying to imagine how id keep a straight face if in a few years time my dd brought home a lad and said mum meet falcon , or peregrine lol , i really dont think naming a child after a bird of prey is wise unless you want everyone falling around with laughter behind your back

tenredthings · 21/01/2022 06:52

@MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake

Peregrine is the name of some horny old viscount with wandering hands and crumbs on his waistcoat.
Haha this !
Lovemusic33 · 21/01/2022 06:54

I actually think Falcon is a cool boys name, not keen on peregine. Also agree with Merlin. How about Kes (Kestrel)? 🤔.

NiceTwin · 21/01/2022 06:58

I quite like Vulture.

bloodywhitecat · 21/01/2022 07:02

@Bimblybomeyelash

What’s Merlin got to do with birds?
A merlin is a bird of prey, a small falcon.
