Peregrine? Or Falcon?

So Peregrine is an actual name, which could be cool or could be disastrous, I'm not sure. What do you think? If not Peregrine what about Falcon? Made up admittedly, but kind of powerful?

Not Shag either.

Twillow · 20/01/2022 22:48

@BuffaloHigh

Why not both?
Grin

Hawker?
(Middle name Siddely)

Isonthecase · 20/01/2022 22:51

I really like Peregrine as a name but sadly not ideal if you're not rich enough to guarantee he won't end up as e.g. a plumber.

DebbieHarrysCheekbones · 20/01/2022 22:53

How about Kes ?

PattyPan · 20/01/2022 22:55

If my name was falcon I’d change it the second I turned 18. If it was Peregrine I might wait until the next day.

Welldarn · 20/01/2022 23:02

He wouldn't be 'Peregrine Falcon', just one or the other.. He would though, if you call him either Falcon or Peregrine, when you introduce him as Peregrine, people will immediately think Falcon.

Welldarn · 20/01/2022 23:04

If you want an interesting or different name call him Ptolemy or Cassius.

ttcstinks · 20/01/2022 23:05

Neither. Ridiculous names

CallMeNutribullet · 20/01/2022 23:08

Pigeon

SoonbeSpringtime · 20/01/2022 23:09

The barman on First Dates is named Merlin.

Sorry OP not a fan of either.

JaneJeffer · 20/01/2022 23:10

@APileofLogs

I know a Merlin and he is a lovely chap. Peregrine makes me think of Peregrine Worsthorne. Falcon makes me think of the Gladiators.
That's a hairdo and a half.
TheSharpertheJuice · 20/01/2022 23:10

@Anotherdayanotheropinon

How about pigeon - pidge for short - or buzzard 😂
My sons nickname is pidge! (albeit his name isn’t Pigeon Grin)
whymewhyme · 20/01/2022 23:16

Sorry both awfull, if i heard either of those names id think wft

Thirtytimesround · 20/01/2022 23:19

Peregrine with Perry as a nickname could be ok.

Falcon is a bit too much, it sounds like an x-Men character or a fighter plane.

PaddleBoardingMomma · 20/01/2022 23:21

There's a cracking owl thread going on in AIBU right now...

CaptainCarp · 20/01/2022 23:25

Peregrine makes me think of a upper class man... Probably landed gentry. No idea why as I've never met someone with the name!

Falcon... I don't think I'd be brave enough but then Bear is a name so maybe you'll be a bit of a trend setter

Luckingfovely · 20/01/2022 23:29

I like both, very cool!

TheHoptimist · 20/01/2022 23:36

Red kite?
Eagle?
Thrush?

Karenetta · 20/01/2022 23:36

Absolutely appalling that we had to wait till page 2 for a mention of Rock Me Amadeus.

chickenlickennn · 20/01/2022 23:37

christ on a bike.

MrsSugar · 20/01/2022 23:38

Jesus Christ !!! Maybe rethink this in the sober light of day !

Karenetta · 20/01/2022 23:39

Yes. Hawk would be much better.

oviraptor21 · 20/01/2022 23:44

Peregrine seems fine to me. Yes it's pretty upper class but shortened to Perry wouldn't be a problem at all.
I can't see anyone going 'Peregrine Falcon' except as the occasional joke, which to be honest can be made from any name really and is really quite harmless.
Falcon - a bit pretentious and linked to Gladiator. I think a kid might need to be quite robust to carry it off but again, Falco is nice and less weird.

wizzler · 20/01/2022 23:52

I once knew a Labrador called Ptarmigan. ... just saying

TheBeardedVulture · 20/01/2022 23:56

Normalise 👏 bird 👏 names 👏!

I genuinely like both but I am into birds so probably biased.

People sneering at Peregrine probably wouldn’t blink at a kid called Arthur or Alfred. It’s a fine old name IMO and can easily be shortened to Pippin or Perry as a nickname.

Other names for consideration on a bird theme: Robin, Merlin, Hawke, Raven, Rook, Jay.
