Peregrine? Or Falcon?

So Peregrine is an actual name, which could be cool or could be disastrous, I'm not sure. What do you think? If not Peregrine what about Falcon? Made up admittedly, but kind of powerful?

Could always go for Orville.

Doesn't quite work though, because it was his name, not what he was. 🤷‍♂️

Tillymintpolo · 21/01/2022 07:03

Emu !

AnxiousPixie · 21/01/2022 07:04

So clicked on expecting a photo and someone trying to identify a kind of bird.

If you like it go for it, just hope you have really nice secondary schools near you. Kids can be merciless.

bertieb7 · 21/01/2022 07:07

I knew a Peregrine , he was called Perry for short.

dangerrabbit · 21/01/2022 07:07

Bluetit?

@TheBeardedVulture

I like Ibis! It has an ancient Egyptian doomy feel which appeals to my goth tendencies.

Crane is a good option too.

If we are going down a 2* hotel chain route, I prefer DaysInn Daze for short
SparkleTwinkle101 · 21/01/2022 07:34

I actually know a peregrine - he's lovely but Very 'upper class' and to an extent suits his name - you could pick him out of a crowd as having it

PhilCornwall1 · 21/01/2022 07:38

If we are going down a 2 hotel chain route, I prefer DaysInn
Daze for short

Premier-Inn, Prem for short?

Getting adventurous with a double barrelled name there.

TheAbbotOfUnreason · 21/01/2022 08:15

@wizzler

I once knew a Labrador called Ptarmigan. ... just saying
You have to be careful around dogs with a silent pee.
Anotherdayanotheropinon · 21/01/2022 09:05

I can just see you in the playground shouting ‘Falcon, Falcon’ and people around you looking confused and ducking/looking up at the sky to see if a bird attack is imminent 😂😂

Also I don’t get this thing if getting your kid a weird name then saying he can go by Perry. If you don’t want him to actually be called the name in day to day life as you know it’s odd just give him a more normal name!!! Confused

MehMahMoo · 21/01/2022 09:27

@FindmeuptheFarawaytree

Phryne is in the original 3 series. Her niece Peregrine is in the "Modern" series set in the 60s 😆

TheOccupier · 21/01/2022 09:34

I know a Falcon (from family of weirdly named siblings with hippie parents).

Why do you want to name your baby after a bird of prey? 🦅

Scarby9 · 21/01/2022 09:34

In the context of animal names, I think Falcon works much better than Fox, Wolf or Bear.

miltonj · 21/01/2022 09:46

Peregrine.

We considered kestrel, but for a girl.

WaterBottle123 · 21/01/2022 09:50

Seagull

ArcheryAnnie · 21/01/2022 10:01

Peregrine used to write for the Telegraph, but is now considered a bit too old-fashioned for even them.

"We welcome Falcon, a brother for Hawk, Wolf and Starchild".

Falco has a mum who read a lot of Roman detective potboiler mysteries in her day, which I can get behind.

Merlin is a posh public school thirtysomething who expects people to be amazed and impressed by his name. (Sadly this isn't even a type - I've met this actual guy. Ugh.)

ArcheryAnnie · 21/01/2022 10:03

Having written the above, though, as soon as you meet a baby or person called any if those things, it ceases to be an unusual name and just starts being someone's name. All are fine. And Pip is lovely as a name!

AuntyBumBum · 21/01/2022 11:50

@PrincessFluffyPants

I knew a Falco. He was very cool and handsome.
You do realise that he would still have been cool and handsome if he was called Alan Grin

(And Dominic Cummings changing his name to Falco won't really help ...)

SoonbeSpringtime · 21/01/2022 11:55

I can’t get beyond Kirsty Alsop calling Phil Spencer Pip, and him calling her Kirstles 🤭

Ellmau · 21/01/2022 22:48

Peregrine is lovely.

Falcon is ludicrous, sorry.

RichPetunia · 23/01/2022 20:47

Awful! Awful!Awful! I hope this is a joke post🤣

Elspethelf · 23/01/2022 21:12

Peregrine gets my vote but I love the non Perry. I don’t think I’d be brave enough to use either but I like the name

ChristmasPlanning · 23/01/2022 21:13

Why do you hate your baby!?

greekyogurtaddict · 19/02/2022 05:31

If you want a name that won't be common or fashionable for a long time then Peregrine is the one! I am in the minority in that I like this name, the name is from the latin Peregrinus, 'traveller', after which the falcon was named. I don't like the nn Perry though as it sounds a bit...limp? Kevin and Perry spoiled the name for me I think! Pip and Perry both sound a bit undignified to me and I don't think I would shorten the name at all, my children have long classic names and they are never shortened. There is also Reg or Reggie like Reginald or working class short form around here would be Pez or Pezza.

I think Peregrine sounds like a strong name, very masculine.

I don't think it is any 'posher' than formally posh names like Hugo or Caspian that are now appropriated by the middle classes en masse. I would expect Peregrines to come from a few different backgrounds: from alternative hippy parents who are a educated but not well off, or a slightly pretentious newly moneyed family that drive an overfinch and holiday in marbella (possibly of the two dads variety!), and seriously moneyed types where the name is a family name and therefore traditional.

Falcon is less traditional, I can see this name trending in america and has a very modern american feel to it like Bear and Wolf. However I think in the UK it would be expected that Falcon has siblings called Silver and Indigo! Or possibly Diesel....
