I recently heard of an Elphinstone Dalgleish. Have also met a couple of kids called Star.

What fun/marvellous/slightly wacky names have you come across?

Brother & sister Apache & D’Jhango
I’m fairly sure those are my cousin’s children!

I once encountered a Henry Henderson Chicken, and have always thought that would be a great name for a character in a novel

shepabear · 11/01/2022 02:04

The names themselves on their own are pretty ordinary but I once knew someone whose sister had twins about ten years ago called Ross and Rachel.

Ds went to nursery with Paradise-Cruze. One of the other parents even checked that they’d heard it right.

If we said “hello paradise” or the like, at drop off time, her mum always corrected up that it was “Paradise-Cruze, not just Paradise”.

Just before they left to go to reception the nursery teacher was giving us fun little games etc to get our kids recognising and beginning to write their names. I always felt sorry for Paradise-Cruze and what a mammoth task she had.

FreakyPurple · 11/01/2022 05:12

I have heard plenty working in a call centre but one name always stuck out to me cause I loved it so much.

Her name was Jasmin Tìan Rainbird.

The whole thing was just so lovely and different!!

Longingforatikihut · 11/01/2022 05:43

Worked with someone called wensdy. We're in Yorkshire so it's Wednesday spelt how it's pronounced. Always thought it quite cool

Beapoppy · 11/01/2022 06:09

Roundelay and Lovejoy. Is Roundelay from the novel Rebecca?

FireMeetGasoline · 11/01/2022 06:09

Not an unusual name, but quite embarrassing. A long time ago, I would've been about 22, I worked for a recruitment company and I called an applicant to ask her about something omitted from her application form. Well, I would never have thought that the way you pronounce Siobahn would have been more like this - 'Shivonne'. Needless to say, I actually called her Siobahn. There was no silent B turning into a nonexistent V when I said it 😂. She corrected me and gave me the right pronunciation to which I replied 'I'm so sorry, your v looks like a b' . I nearly died of embarrassment when she explained.

My mums side of the family are from Cornwall. And I really wanted to call dd Loveday (as in Loveday Carey Lewis from coming home). But DH vetoed it. Boooo.

On dhs side we have a Winter, a Hedley, and my great grandpa was Maurice Juilian Emile big name for a man who was supposedly skinny as a rake strong as a cart horse and about 5foot.
