I used to know a child named Honey-Lee. We all called her Honey-Lee the bumble-bee. It’s cute as a middle name, I personally wouldn’t want to be called Honey as my first name. Imagine all the leery chat up lines that would be ready made. Oooohh Honey bet you taste sweet etc. Yuck.

I will say my taste is very plain for names though. My kids are called names like Hannah/Michael type of names which I know a lot of people feel are bland/boring but to me if you’re called Olivia or Jackson or Amy or Thomas you can be anyone. If you’re called Honey or Baby or Princess it’s hard to be a quiet, shy or serious type of person, you basically need to be sparky and bubbly.

I like it!

@clpsmum i was bullied for my name as a child and as an adult it has been commented on, laughed at, been a source of amusement.

Unfortunately, it is so distinctive that when people hear it, they know it usually me being talked about

I was determined that my kids would have 'normal' names that noone would think twice about.

DariaMorgendorffer · 06/11/2021 18:32

It's fine. I know a Honey. Like any name, once you've met the person you just get used to the name.

dizzydizzydizzy · 06/11/2021 18:41

I think it's awful but I prefer traditional names. If you like it OP, go with it. We all have different tastes

clpsmum · 06/11/2021 18:56

@Antiqueanniesmagiclanternshow that's absolutely awful
You poor thing. I always assumed it was one of those things said on Mumsnet that didn't happen in real life.

TurnUpTurnip · 06/11/2021 19:12

I was bullied for my name as a child and it’s not even an unusual name but people would add on other things to make it into a silly name

LoveGrooveDanceParty · 06/11/2021 19:33

People get teased for their names all the time.

I had a very unfashionable name in the 70s, kids didn’t care - but every time I was introduced to an adult, I’d get, without fail, ‘is a bell necessary on a bike, chortle chortle’. Not only did I not get it as a kid, but it was predictable and tedious. And it was for a perfectly normal name. And, it was adults!

Honey is ripe for teasing, and inevitably it will be the adults (who know the connotations), doing the teasing.

Love it

JumperandJacket · 06/11/2021 23:59

In an ideal world, it would be a beautiful name.

In this world, it’s an invitation for creepy blokes to harass her and dismiss her intelligence.

Lovely as a middle name or a nickname but otherwise a no from me.

saltandherbsandnothingnice · 06/11/2021 23:59

Lifetime of jokes and men using it to come onto her. Very cute but will be difficult for her imo.

londongirl2701 · 07/11/2021 00:41

Love it x

crymeapuddle · 07/11/2021 00:52

@Morgantowers

Wasn't Honey a character in EastEnders about 10 years ago?
And a character in Matilda before that
LoveGrooveDanceParty · 07/11/2021 00:54

She was Miss Honey - surname.

Kanaloa · 07/11/2021 05:44

Yes if I remember correctly Miss Honey’s first name was the very lovely Jennifer.

VenusClapTrap · 07/11/2021 08:34

@Amberflames

It’s a great name if she wants a career as a stripper.
