Call her Miele (pronounced May-lee). It means honey.

I think the household appliances brand rules that one out
..........
Plus that's not how it's pronounced

It is if you’re not German.

Honey is a gorgeous name, and I'm sure she will have a very successful career as a burlesque dancer.

But….that’s not how Miele is pronounced. Me-Elle.

@planderaccordement, huh? What's german got to do with it?

It's an Italian word (if you want the honey meaning). Pronounced me-eh-leh.

No.

FlyingWhistle · 03/11/2021 17:01

Honey Boo Boo?

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 03/11/2021 17:05

I pronounce Miele as mee-la as that's what the appliance peeps say.

Top notch hoovers by the way. Beats those crappy Dysons.

PlanDeRaccordement · 03/11/2021 17:06

@JudgementalCactus
You referenced the appliance brand name, which is German?

Nope, wasn't me

PlanDeRaccordement · 03/11/2021 17:07

However you pronounce it, it’s still a pretty name.

PlanDeRaccordement · 03/11/2021 17:08

Yes you did reference the appliance brand name by quoting it...

There’s a Honey in our neighbourhood, poor child. Her parents seem normal, too.

It really, really, really lacks substance.

If you want her never to be taken seriously in life, by all means, give her a name like that.

Ooh, good to know. I am over my Dyson.

Our Miele dishwasher is brilliant.

Years ago in the school where I taught, there was an utterly obnoxious brat called Melissa who liked to boast that her name came from a goddess of honey and means "Little Bee".

Little B became her nickname, but not in a good way.

SatsumaPumpkinFace · 03/11/2021 17:13

There was a Honey at a baby group I went to about 18 years ago. She had strawberry blonde hair, I thought it was a lovely name for her.

firstimemamma · 03/11/2021 17:17

Seems unfair on the child who will one day be an adult.

Also it sounds like a surname so you'd be saddling the child with conversations like "no, I said your first name for this bank form" for the rest of her life.

Bimblybomeyelash · 03/11/2021 17:22

I think it’s too cutesy and babyish. Less awful but similar:

Bonnie
Harmony
Dulcie
Elodie

TuftyMarmoset · 03/11/2021 17:22

Miele is pronounced me-luh in German, meel in French. Not aware of any language where it would be pronounced May-lee!

maddy68 · 03/11/2021 17:23

Sorry. It's a hamster name

Bluebellbike · 03/11/2021 17:26

My first thought was the song 'Honey' by Bobby Goldsboro.

Northumberlandlass · 03/11/2021 17:27

It’s the name of my cat.

Fivebeanchilli · 03/11/2021 17:30

I know an 18 year old Honey. Her siblings have lovely names but I don't love Honey. It's just insubstantial to me. She doesn't really suit it either.
I would say mee - AY - lay for Miele.
Melissa is a bit dated but she'd definitely be the only one in her class I should think. Whereas I can imagine another Honey in a class quite easily!

forestlovr · 03/11/2021 17:30

It's a lovely name (I have a similar name) Ignore the people being rude, they typically only like top 10 names that have been around for 100 years

You can tell yourself that’s the case, but it doesn’t make it true.

Disliking Honey has zero correlation with only liking over-used popular names.
