Is the name Roy dated and sounded cute?

We are expecting a DS anytime now and I am having second thoughts on the name, Roy.

DH really likes the name but I am just worried that this name is dated and sounded cute?

No it's not cute at all.

Weirdly enough, I quite like the name Leroy. Maybe that could be an option with Roy as a nickname?

When I had my DD in 2017, the baby in the bay next to us on the ward was being named Roy.

Still to this day I wonder how he is and if he was born wearing a sleeveless cardigan like Roy cropper.

My dads name was Roy and I had a baby boy but ended up calling him Louis Roy after his granddad, I like it but I've heard it for 28 years of my life so that might be why

@olivia1324 did you end up going for Roy? Really mixed reviews on here but Roy was my grandad's name and my husband and I are considering it for our (soon to be born) son. Interesting to read the opinions! We love Roy Kent from Ted Lasso and Roy from the IT Crowd too 😂

I quite like it, and it’s meaning ‘king’. Once he’s here and that’s his name, no one will bat an eyelid.

I find it dated and not quite ready for a comeback yet. It's a name I associate with my parents' generation.

On the plus side, it's not popular at all now, which could be a good thing if you're looking for an unusual name.

I was at school with a Roy 20 years ago and it was an odd name for a kid then, not cute just an old man name like Graham or Brian

Interesting a lot of people really like Rory - we do know a lot of baby Rory's these days. Seems the current "parent" generation is very divided on Roy... I wonder how the kids' (well, currently babies) generation would see it... Baby boy is now 5 days overdue so still waiting to meet him and see what name will suit him.

Hello, no, we didn't name our son Roy in the end. We just felt like if we need to ask others for opinions we probably don't like the name enough... plus I also had mixed feelings for this name. Agree really mixed reviews here... my husband was saying there is just no perfect name that everyone likes. Naming is very tough, hope you find the right name : )
