Is the name Roy dated and sounded cute?

We are expecting a DS anytime now and I am having second thoughts on the name, Roy.

DH really likes the name but I am just worried that this name is dated and sounded cute?

I love it, I think it's very cool.

mum2jakie · 15/10/2021 18:00

I know a newborn baby Ray(mond) so think Roy is of the same ilk?

Neolara · 15/10/2021 18:02

It's absolutely awful imo. Sorry.

curiouscatgotkilled · 15/10/2021 18:20

How about Rory? It's similar and very sweet but good for all ages

wendywoopywoo222 · 15/10/2021 18:21

I love it. If I had ever had a baby he would of been a Roy.

I named the dog Roy instead.

KirstenBlest · 15/10/2021 18:21

I really like it.

Mymapuddlington · 15/10/2021 18:22

I think Ray is nicer sounding, like ray of sun. Roy has quite a harsh oi sound to my ears.

EmmaC78 · 15/10/2021 18:22

I think it is very dated too.

DeadButDelicious · 15/10/2021 18:23

There is a little boy called Roy in DD's class and his name really suits him. I don't think it's outdated at all.

If you like it, go for it.

Luckytattie · 15/10/2021 18:24

Ray is much better than Roy.

Tatum1234 · 15/10/2021 18:41

It’s awful sorry.

Mamamamasaurus · 15/10/2021 18:44

Horrible. What about Barry, it has a much nicer ring to it. Or Keith.

Ticketybooboo · 15/10/2021 18:47

Retro. I quite like it. And if you like it, go for it.

rejectedprincess · 15/10/2021 18:52

Please don't. Instantly think of Roy Whiting.

mafted · 15/10/2021 18:54

@SnowyPetals

Roy is 65 and has mates called Howard and Les.
This made me laugh. FIL is 67 and two of his friends are Roy and Les! No Howard though, two Mikes, a Graham and Des.
Helpimfalling · 15/10/2021 18:57

Royston Royston (keeps repeating it to myself) that is all

Skysblue · 15/10/2021 18:58

I think it’s very cute. Grandparen names always come back, look at all the Florence Ivy Frankie etc.

Also perhaps Rory?

Tellmeee · 15/10/2021 18:59

It is dated but no worse than names like Stanley, Ralph or Leonard which are popular on here.

Lynne1Cat · 15/10/2021 19:00

Roy is rather old-fashioned, makes me think of Roy in Coronation Street

celestebellman · 15/10/2021 19:00

Roy is someone from an Alan Bennett monologue who wears a beige raincoat and lives with his mother.

Andrewthecharminbumwiper · 15/10/2021 19:01

I rather like it (but prefer Ray) and love the Roy Cropper character!

woodhill · 15/10/2021 19:02

Roy Cropper , no old mannish

BertieBotts · 15/10/2021 19:04

Roy's Rolls.

GeorgiaGirl52 · 15/10/2021 19:12

Royce
Leroy

  • use Roy as nickname for either
