What is Arthur's sister called?

I feel like I've been through every name in the world and still can't find the "perfect" one.

We're fussy because the surname is long (double barrelled), and so the first name has to be short. Also my family tends to use nicknames, so it has to have a nickname that we like.

We loved Iris for ages, but I hate all nicknames that we can come up with for it. I also love Annie as a nickname, but don't want to give her a nickname as a first name so she can use the longer form when she's older. But the only longer version of Annie that I like is Anastasia, and that feels too long with our surname!

Help!

I'd go with Iris.

My immediate thought was Annie. I think it's a lovely name to use just as Annie and not as a nickname.

My friend's DD has just named her daughter Alma - really pleased if that's coming back, I think it's a lovely name.

I’d go with Iris. I’m not convinced it will get shortened so you’re overthinking that.

I like Matilda or Iseult/Isolde with Arthur - fittingly medieval.

We have Arthur and Etta.

Our girls list was something like -

Ella
Eleanor
Elsie
Emily
Grace/Gracie
Iris (I don't think it would get shortened)
Ivy
Ida

Liked Ada and Ava but didn't want 2 A names personally, though that doesn't bother a lot of people!

Also like Edith/Edie as suggested by PPs

If you love Iris, why on earth are you worried about nicknames? I have 2, both over 10, and no one calls them anything other than their full names.

ReadingTeaLeaves · 19/09/2021 01:28

And Iris is a lovely name.
