Hi all. After considering middle names for Ada I'm also thinking about first name River. Any MN suggestions? Thanks x

Not River Leigh ... there is an actual River Lee.

I'm not a fan of River but I agree you need a very boring sensible middle name so they have a choice as an adult.

I like River. I think it’s better for a boy though.

wincarwoo · 30/08/2021 13:31

I think it needs a longer more flowing (no pun intended) name to balance it out.

River Abigail
River Emmeline
River Adeline

Leigh and Tyne? I'm confused as those suggestions don't appear to be jokes, they're in with suggestions of regular names.

Did you have any ideas op?

Treeballarae · 30/08/2021 13:45

Fleur Bell has a little girl called River with the middle name Wren which I think is a nice combination.

snowspider · 30/08/2021 13:50

I'm surprised at the posts on here. I think a) River is a nice name b) it's not that out there or rare so don't get the responses as though it is a joke?

It's nice on a horse but not a human and to me it is out there. I've never encountered one. Clearly it's common in some areas but not in mine.

I’ve never known it to be used as a girls name before. It’s a lovely name though, ignore the people who can’t possibly imagine anyone with a name other than Amelia or Sophie. My name often comes up on baby name threads along with comments of “it’s sweet as a baby but can you imagine if your doctor/ solicitor was called X?” Unusual names are fine, as a child it was always the parents that tried to make me feel embarrassed about my name, kids (and most normal adults) couldn’t give a crap.

LizzieBet14 · 30/08/2021 14:00

I've taught a River-Raine......

I don't think it's common in the way that Jack and George are, but comparatively common. A poster said that they know five. I've never known one so I guess it varies by area.

DameAlyson · 30/08/2021 14:06

Don't choose a middle name beginning with a vowel if you live in the SE. It will always sound like River Ranna, River Rabigail, River Rashleigh etc whenever anyone says it aloud.

Peanutsandchilli · 30/08/2021 14:09

@Cbeebiesrehab

I know 5 Rivers actually (mainly boys though) so it’s not that unusual. The girl River is River Rose. As a PP said I would pair it with a feminine name to soften it a bit.
The river rose then burst its banks?

How stupid. Do parents not have a single iota of common sense anymore?

Marimaur · 30/08/2021 14:23

'How stupid. Do parents not have a single iota of common sense anymore?'

Bit extreme Grin

Gothichouse40 · 30/08/2021 14:36

I got flamed on here for saying I did not like a name. Im sorry but Id use River as a middle name. Can you imagine a pensioner named River. Children have to go to school with a name, live with a name and grow old with a name. I really don't understand this fad for finding the most unusual and outlandish name you can saddle your children with. Ive known two adults who have already changed their name legally as they hated the Christian name they were given at birth. I know my view will not be popular but please think about your child's name carefully.
