Awful.

Honestly with all of your nicknames which in no way link to the actual name Bertha I think you are winding us all up.

LoislovesStewie · 29/08/2021 10:52

@Godwits

Oh and there's no chance she'll be big Bertha because our family are slim (third generation vegans) and athletic of build. Athletic like long distance runners who do Pilates.
Ha Ha!
plus3 · 29/08/2021 10:53

Oh just do it.

OK
aramox · 29/08/2021 10:57

Sorry it's awful imo. At best it signals modest/quiet. At worst, ugly and awful nicknames. Bethan ? Agree about birth certificate names, they should be proper names. Why are you so keen on it? Anne of Green Gables has a daughter called Bertha Marilla iirc and she hates her name, and that was around 1910!

NoWhey · 29/08/2021 10:57

You're joking, right?

Godwits · 29/08/2021 10:59

How can Maud and Madeley be acceptable?

OP posts:
Godwits · 29/08/2021 11:01

Mabel obvs! Richard Madeley is a perfect lyacceptable TV and radio host and a jolly good husband to Judy.

How can Maud and Madeley be acceptable?
Because they aren't usually prefaced with "Big"!
Subbaxeo · 29/08/2021 11:05

You’re winding us up like a clock, aren’t you, OP! Bertha the Vegan!

Peanutsandchilli · 29/08/2021 11:06

Hell no, you can't inflict Bertha on a sweet little baby! There's zero point in putting it on the birth(er) certificate if you're wanting to shorten it anyway, because I guarantee she'll never use it.

DramaAlpaca · 29/08/2021 11:17

Haha, good one! Very funny, OP.

MrsBertBibby · 29/08/2021 11:23

I wouldn’t go for anything with Bert in, it’s a really ugly sound IMO.

Do you mind? Rude!

piratehugs · 29/08/2021 11:33

This thread is brilliant. The only Bertha I've met turned up cheerfully on our doorstep with a suitcase one day, claiming to be a friend of a relative in Australia. She stayed a week. Never heard of her before or since.

ThePersonFromPorlock · 29/08/2021 11:40

You clearly want to use the name no matter what, OP (unless this is a wind up). You've asked for people's thoughts. You don't agree with people's thoughts. Maybe just call your__ poor child Bertha and stop arsing about with circuitous pathways to the same name.

OVienna · 29/08/2021 11:40

Go for Suze with the next one - Big Suze.

Excellent. Did you ever get to the bittom if who she really was?
PollyValent · 29/08/2021 11:43

Not yet.

Disfordarkchocolate · 29/08/2021 11:46

This would be a hard no from me. To me it sounds unpleasant. All of your suggested nicknames are a lot nicer.

PoshWatchShitShoes · 29/08/2021 11:47

Assume this is a wind up thread 🤨 Bertha but nicknamed Bethany?? How does that even relate in any way 😂

TheWholeJingbang · 29/08/2021 11:48

If you can look at your baby and say “yes, I really did give you the best name out there” then .... go
For it

Honestly OP is that the best you can come up with?

ElliottSmithsfingers · 29/08/2021 11:48

I'm enjoying this now I've realised the OP is on a wind up. You did well OP but the "3rd generation vegan" stuff gave the game away.

Twizbe · 29/08/2021 11:56

You cannot be serious ....

I bet your Bertha would be the first one to reject veganism and be a plus sized model

AtomicSquirrel3 · 29/08/2021 11:57

😱

Attiladahun · 29/08/2021 11:59

What about calling her Zoe nn Bertha.
