I really cant make my mind up but I think I like it.

my husband keeps throwing names out there, I get attached and he then decides he doesnt like it. he is really keen on the name Ace/Acer. I like Ace more but do like the name Acer based on the meaning (number one/the best). we have a daughter called Ada as well for a bit of background.

thoughts or any ideas of other names!?

As PPs have said, 'ace' is current parlance for 'asexual'.

It may be slang that falls out of fashion in a few years, but please be aware of this connotation if you choose to use the name. Maybe find a longer name with the nickname Ace, so your son has a get-out clause later if necessary.

ItPearl · 24/07/2021 08:34

Pity your H has a nephew called Leo, that's lovely and looks simple but strong, like Ada.

As for the asexual thing, these terms don't usually go away, not for decades, so I wouldn't bank on it going away.... New ones come along! Ace, Pan, Demi..... they could all be names.

ItPearl · 24/07/2021 08:38

I really dislike Ace as I've made clear! but I would be oh go ahead if you like it about ''Jace''

Chunkymenrock · 24/07/2021 09:37

I'd suggest to your H to get over his tenuous problem with Asher. It's completely different to Ashley, he wouldn't even think of that person once the baby's here and you love it.

Chase? Casey?

Jack
Eli
Victor
Siegfried
Paxton
Ajax
Jago
Nico
Mason

Ace and Acer are both dreadful on many, many levels.

SirenSays · 24/07/2021 10:47

Ace and Kit are cat names and Bruno is for dogs. You're certainly following a theme 🤭

I know 3 Bruno's! and my mum has two kits in her class!

name trends are changing I guess! not sure if your post is intended to be rude or helpful but I'll be honest you've fallen into the former for me!

Ajax, that’s used to be a household cleaning product! 😂🤣😂
EeeppP · 24/07/2021 13:16

I love it, but not with Ada.
A pp's suggestion of Victor is a good one, imo.

Classica · 24/07/2021 13:18

I quite like the name Bruno and although Ace wouldn't be my style I'd certainly pick it over something like Rupert or Wilfred, names I find desperately ugly but are fawned over by so many.

Philandbill · 24/07/2021 14:50

@Snoopsnoggysnog Ace Mulholland was indeed the best JC hero. Grin derails thread

TheVanguardSix · 24/07/2021 14:55

Here are my unasked for suggestions:

Axel
Otis
Rex
Amos
Dash (Dashiell)
Alaric
Nico
Ash (Asher)
Nils
Lars
Elio

Terrazzo · 24/07/2021 14:57

Love Asa and Acer but Ace makes me think of horrid Jim Carrey.

Moot point though because no way can you have Ada and Acer! Or Ada and Ace IMO.

WhereTheNorthwindGoes · 24/07/2021 14:59

What a guy.

Ace?
Qwerty789 · 24/07/2021 15:02

Asa is a nicer spelling

That's not a different spelling, that's a completely different name that is not pronounced the same way!

And Ace is awful. Acer and Ada would be ridiculous

YourCakesAreShit · 24/07/2021 16:38

@WowIlikereallyhateyou Yeah, but he's also a Greek hero!

I love Asher but husband ruled that one out on the basis he dislikes someone called ashley :(

What a guy.
I posted this on a similar thread the other day.

It’d be a no from me.

Anyone said Ventura?

Snoopsnoggysnog · 24/07/2021 18:58

@Philandbill Grin

GolfEchoRomeoTangoIndia · 24/07/2021 19:16

I think any name which invites the nickname Rimmer is asking for trouble. But to be fair it’s a sufficiently dated reference that few of his classmates would get it (my 16 year old would though).

LuluJakey1 · 24/07/2021 19:17

No, not Ace- but what about Mint?

LemonRoses · 24/07/2021 19:25

Not Mint, but Minty, perhaps? Araminta is lovely and has potential for diminutives.

PaolaDiLorenzo · 24/07/2021 19:28

I like it, it reminds me of Ace Frehley, the drummer from Kiss, although his real name is Paul Grin.
I do prefer Asher or Axel.
