I really cant make my mind up but I think I like it.

my husband keeps throwing names out there, I get attached and he then decides he doesnt like it. he is really keen on the name Ace/Acer. I like Ace more but do like the name Acer based on the meaning (number one/the best). we have a daughter called Ada as well for a bit of background.

thoughts or any ideas of other names!?

Both Ace and Acer are awful and too close to Ada. What about Jake or Alex?

scully29 · 24/07/2021 19:31

I love it, its a fab name! Hes going to be cool called Ace. Ace & Ada are gorgeous names.

TangledTrees · 24/07/2021 19:36

No.
Ace = asexual, so like calling him Bi or Hetero or Gay or Pan etc Grin

he has 3 friends called jake!

I really think it will be waiting until he is here - I cant see my husband committing to anything, like I said not even his own suggestions!

I hate saying this but it is not a good name. At best it is a sort of nickname but it has difficult everyday meanings eg best, number one, asexual and just sounds like a noise Apart free m that it doesn't go with your daughter's name and will be annoying unless you are looking to double up on name tapes.

GreyhoundG1rl · 24/07/2021 21:14

I don't think that's how it works.

GreyhoundG1rl · 24/07/2021 21:16

Before he's even born? Fast work.

Mayhemmumma · 24/07/2021 21:22

Ada and Sebastian sounds lovely! Seb!

I have an Ada but wouldn't choose Ace personally.

ha, I mean that would be impressive but obviously referring to my husbands friends!

I know, Ace was his most recent contribution after taking back all his other ones. he wont like it himself by now but hey ho!

and I looove sebastian but I know husband would never agree..probably the one he would least likely to :(

I like Asa

Chunkymenrock · 25/07/2021 03:43

@Qwerty789

Asa is a nicer spelling

That's not a different spelling, that's a completely different name that is not pronounced the same way!

And Ace is awful. Acer and Ada would be ridiculous

Asa is pronounced the same as Acer. They are both Ay-sah.
Chilldonaldchill · 25/07/2021 09:32

I like Asa but the Acer spelling is just weird to me. Ace is naff.
All are far too similar to Ada (which is lovely).

Awful! Would roll my eyes if I saw this on my class list I’m afraid.

HullIsWorseThanHell · 25/07/2021 09:48

Jet, Zak, Eli, Dax, Dex, Kip?

Well, not a teacher but in defense of teachers who would roll their eyes at ''Ace'' on a roll call, I'm a single parent, I have no formal education, I have a very modest job, no car because I can't afford one, a shabby house in a run down part of a suburb miles out of the city, and I would roll my eyes at ''Ace''.

It's just so self-consciously try-hard. But missing its mark. What is its mark?

I don't love this, but I could get behind ''Jace''. That has a bit of the same vibe without the asexual association. If he ends up working in Barclays bank for 45 years, Jace will work better. Or, curve ball, what about Bruce! Bruce sounds a bit like Ace, and to be honest, Bruce and Ada sound gorgeous together.

morepizzapls · 25/07/2021 09:59

I dont really think about names on such a deep level to be fair! I wasnt 100 percent on it, it was my husbands one recent suggestion.

and, unsurprisingly, he has already gone off it!

Fair enough, but the meaning of a name should definitely be considered!

Wdyt of Bruce or Victor with Ada @morepizzapls

morepizzapls · 25/07/2021 10:17

oh it's not that I dont consider anything about it but I don't think if it's too try hard/posh/"cool" etc.

my husband said no to victor!

Eww! Toilet cleaner

How about Asher?

Havanalily1806 · 25/07/2021 18:56

I think I like it.

I'm sure Emma and Matt Willis named their son Ace, it's always sounded "cool" and suited them I thought.

I also am a fan of strong 1 syllable names so that's probably why too

Etchasketched · 27/07/2021 08:09

Sorry I haven't got time to read all previous posts so someone might have already mentioned this. I work within NHS and closely with social services. ACE is a commonly used acronym for adverse childhood experiences. I think best not to use the name unfortunately.

KingNasir · 28/04/2022 01:23

Did you end up choosing Ace? What are the reactions?…..

lastly, thoughts on the name Lavish? ( Means Lord of love, cute, luxury. Also means Rich)
