Ace?

I really cant make my mind up but I think I like it.

my husband keeps throwing names out there, I get attached and he then decides he doesnt like it. he is really keen on the name Ace/Acer. I like Ace more but do like the name Acer based on the meaning (number one/the best). we have a daughter called Ada as well for a bit of background.

thoughts or any ideas of other names!?

Ace = asexual

Now there's nothing wrong with being ace, but it's gaining recognition and kids will be bullying kids.

KurtWilde · 23/07/2021 20:01

I love Ace

LemonRoses · 23/07/2021 20:04

I quite like Ada.

I don’t know why parents choose names their children will inevitably be teased about p.

morepizzapls · 23/07/2021 20:07

Ace is certainly not my favourite but I dont think they will be teased for it - I dont know any of the references that have been made on here and that's me in my 20s let alone their generation!

my top 3 are probably Arlo, Sebastian and Oakley but considering he has done a horrible face to all of these names I doubt I will get my way :(

just wait until you are in full blown labour and then re-negotiate....

but please don't pick Ace

ofwarren · 23/07/2021 20:14

You might not know any of the references but Ace means asexual to teenagers these days. He would have his own flag and everything.

CaptainMyCaptain · 23/07/2021 20:17

No.

morepizzapls · 23/07/2021 20:18

oh does it!? didnt know that either! I think it will go down to when he is born tbh unless my husband miraculously comes up with something he and I both like - so far even his suggestions hes ended up not liking a few days later!

Ace is awful. What if he isn't? It's a lot to live up to. Acer is a brand of computer.

Classica · 23/07/2021 20:18

I think it's one of those name that's popular with celebs at the moment, the way Blue was 10 years ago. I have a feeling Emma Willis has a son called Ace.

annacondom · 23/07/2021 20:24

Ace is awful. Sorry. Leo and Kit are both lovely though.

he rejected kit very very early on - PE kit was his reasoning!

As others have said, ace is now now a word in teen speak meaning asexual. Plus Ada and Ace don't go together.

SirVixofVixHall · 23/07/2021 21:23

I know a young adult Acer, he was named after the tree. I also know an adult Ã…sa , she is Swedish.( The Ã… sound is more like or ).

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 23/07/2021 22:49

Ace is a bit "try hard"/hipster as a given name for me (and a very different style to vintage Ada!). I do think it's a cool nn though - but I personally think traditional Asa works better with Ada than the nature name version Acer (but Acer still works better than just Ace for me).

Cbeebiesrehab · 23/07/2021 23:45

Really don’t think Ace is that unusual…that being said I think it’s too similar to Ada.

Snoopsnoggysnog · 23/07/2021 23:57

I love Ace. Really wanted it for DS and wish we had given it to him as a nickname. Didn’t know it was short for asexual though.
I don’t see anything wrong with Ada and Ace.

Jaxon and Oakley are awful though sorry

PinkertonRab · 23/07/2021 23:57

Our Ace is 13. Was unusual when we picked it but seems more popular now - we know of one around age 4/5 locally. No bullying, he seems to like it and no feeling he must be ‘ace’. Not heard of it in regards to asexual and his friends have never commented. Seems pretty unremarkable in both his schools - occasional eye brow raise from adults. It’s not a mumsnet name though so not surprised by this reaction. However, not sure it fits with Ada.

BackforGood · 24/07/2021 00:10

Ace is awful

That said, I clearly have very different tastes from you, going on all your other posts.

There was a thread on here a couple of days ago where the poster asked for favourites out of about 5 names, and almost 100% of replies said "anyone of them EXCEPT Ace"

I also think it would be a right pain to have an Ada and an Ace in the same household

Snoopsnoggysnog · 24/07/2021 00:11

I will admit I am a bit biased because of the jilly Cooper character Ace Mulholland. Just love that name Blush

badacorn · 24/07/2021 05:34

The kipper thing refers to a character in the comedy series Red Dwarf, Ace Rimmer. I don’t think that’s a reason not to use it

A possible reason not to use it is that it means asexual these days and I don’t think it goes with your daughters name.

Acer is an IT brand and a tree.

I don’t think either are terrible names though it just depends if these things put you off.

CoronaPeroni · 24/07/2021 06:09

Why not just go with Leo?

OnlyTheLangOfTheTitberg · 24/07/2021 06:34

The first thing I thought of was the asexual shortening and I’m a lot older than a teenager!

morepizzapls · 24/07/2021 08:17

@CoronaPeroni

Why not just go with Leo?
husband doesnt like it and his nephew is called Leo! I didnt know this as it's a sibling he doesnt really see that I've never met! he has a huge family, 8 siblings in total and I've only met 4 of them so I could potentially run into this problem again!

Awful. Really awful.
