Ignatius?

I've checked previous threads and they're quite a few years old. What are current thoughts on this name? We keep returning to it but wonder whether we should just put it to rest?

We already have a Hugo.

I clicked before realising this was on baby names, and thought it was to do with an illness or disease I hadn't yet heard of.

So I'm afraid for me it's a no.

OverTheWater · 14/07/2021 12:08

Brave choice. Wouldn't be my choice.

I do actually know one - calls himself Igz.

AuntieStella · 14/07/2021 12:09

It's a very RC name

I know one who must be about 5 and is usually known as Iggy

I like it

RuthW · 14/07/2021 12:15

I love it. Iggy for short.

SnipSnipMrBurgess · 14/07/2021 12:21

Just don't do that to your child please.

Crunchymum · 14/07/2021 16:16

Sounds like a Harry Potter character.

I love Ignacio though.

Stillfunny · 14/07/2021 16:26

Very popular as a middle name here because of Jesuits. How about Xavier as in St Francis Xavier .Goes with Hugo .?

I prefer Xavier as a name.

There's a lot of deeply odd and overt anti-Catholicism on this thread. Hmm

It may be a 'Rees-Mogg' name in English circles, but it's a perfectly ordinary name in many other parts of the world, and no more to do with religion of any particular stripe than Biblical names like Elijah, Joshua or Isaac.

I'm Catholic and at my v bog-standard school there were all sorts of names, he'd have gone by Iggy there, but there were several of those kinds of names (Bernadette, Imelda types) - I'm mid 30s.

My DD will be starting in a not remotely posh Catholic school in September and there are lots of kids called things like Mary, Vincent, Monica, Francis etc so I don't think it would stick out too much, though it is unusual.

It’s a name that’s used traditionally by Catholic families. Acknowledging that is not anti Catholic.

CurryLover55 · 14/07/2021 17:21

No way!

I tend to agree with that.

Nuggetnugget · 14/07/2021 17:43

I would find it quite a strong name that makes a statement. It's a lot to put on a child but I do like it.

What about Jude?

MaMelon · 14/07/2021 18:17

In which case I apologise for my poor choice of words and will ask for it to be removed.

FleetwoodRaincoat · 14/07/2021 18:24

No. No. No.

MargosKaftan · 14/07/2021 18:33

Actually I like it- Iggy is very very cool as a nickname.

It is, however, rather a "bigger" name than Hugo in every sense.

midsomermurderess · 14/07/2021 18:43

I like the nickname in Spanish, Nacho. It seems very Catholic too me. That's my background. I'm being neither overtly or covertly anti-catholic. I am so bored of poster roaming boards to pull people up over nonexistent offences, just to swell their sanctimonious egos.

FriedasCarLoad · 14/07/2021 18:48

I really like it, but I would assume you were very Roman Catholic.

MadMadMadamMim · 14/07/2021 18:50

Unless you are desperate for him to grow up, join a monastery and be known as Brother Ignatius I can't imagine what you make you consider this.

It's dreadful.

ProperVexed · 14/07/2021 18:52

Well.....I love it!

Lipz · 14/07/2021 18:52

It's too close to Dignitas. It'd be a no from me.

GirlAloud · 14/07/2021 18:53

Awful name, and completely unfair on the poor little chap. Would you want to be called Ignatius? Really?
